Having checked out the 1969 clip below, I thought I would see what else was around. Result being the full length version of Blodwyn Pig "Same Old Story" from the 29 Jan 1970 edition, a short clip of which was shown on Never Mind the Buzzcocks, but other than that AFAIK, not shown since original transmission. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qd09eJ-iqQMIf I remember correctly, as well as the B/W version featured here, the performance also exists in colour, along with other performances from this show on a compilation tape.

Yes, this does exist in colour on a compilation tape made in around 1971 which also featured the colour version of Jethro Tulls' "Witches Promise", The Kinks "Lola" and Free "All Right Now" which of course still resides in the BBC archive.

Badfinger's Come And Get It, The Who's Won't Get Fooled Again and The Kinks' Apeman and others are also on the reel. There will be a thread on here somewhere that lists all the items on that compilation though.

According to Doug Hinmans excellent day by day book on The Kinks, the "Once More With Felix" show was broadcast on February 1st 1969 and was taped at BBCTV Centre on 7th January 1969. They performed mimes to "Last Of The Steam Powered Trains" and "Picture Book". It was to be original bassist Pete Quaifes' penultimate TV appearance with The Kinks. Indeed the "Village Green" album had been released on November 22nd 1968... classic bad Kinks timing since The Beatles White album and the Stones; "Beggars Banquet" were also released that same week which along with bad record company promotion helps explain why that wonderful album ended up being virtually ignored at the time.
Are these clips newly discovered? I assume they are in Colour. Whatever, being a Kinks freak, I'd love to see this footage!

The camera-work and quality of Won't Get Fooled Again is as good as any promo of that time... the quality of presentation on TOTP in the late 60's/early 70's was second-to-none which makes it even more of a shame it was mostly binned Compared to the likes of Disco it was streets ahead

Compared to the likes of Disco it was streets ahead Don't forget "Beat Club" as well - much of its 1967 to 1972 output was plagued and ruined by their penchant for fancy visual nonsense some of which made little sense at all... classic example being Joe Cockers' "With A Little Help From My Friends" which has a bizarre psychedelic backdrop centered on Jimi Hendrixs' "Electric Ladyland" cover - the naked women version too! The worst one of all must be The Third Ear Band... theres no other footage of them from that era and all we can see are the band in a single shot far too distant, whilst the producers mess around with a boring album cover... not once do we get a single close up of the band or any of its members... very frustrating. Don't get me wrong there is some good stuff there, but when one looks at TOTP clips, theres no competition so its frustrating that "Beat Club" exists virtually complete but TOTP doesn't.

I suspect though that it's something else; do either the CMP or Felix appearances exist then?

Thank God for YouTube!
That Blodwyn Pig is awesome. Funnily enough I actually recall seeing it when it was first broadcast (IIRC Edison Lighthouse's "Love Grows" was No. 1 at the same time).
As others have said, such a shame that so much great TOTP from that era doesn't survive, while all the late '70s - 00s episodes (the vast majority of which are for the most part utter dross) are complete.
