Thanks for highlighting this... most fascinating.
It appears that the sound was redubbed using the record. Jimi would had sang live to a backing track hence it looks like hes miming badly when in reality he was singing it a little differently. The audience applauding at the end can't be heard which proves this was redubbed. A pity.
I wonder where this has turned up from and if it does exist with its original soundtrack or not.

What about the Purple Haze clip that was uploaded by the same user. Surely this one's missing in the BBC Archives?

AFAIK there are two copies of "Purple Haze" in circulation, both of the same appearance. The longest clip is not in great quality but the shorter one looks great. I believe the shorter clip was part of an American documentary on Hendrix made sometime in the last 20 years.
"The Wind Cries Mary" is totally new to me... never even knew that was about. As for whether the BBC have them or not, if their TOTP2 records are anything to go by, no.
I doubt the mid August 1967 performance of "The Burning Of The Midnight Lamp" has survived though... that was the infamous occasion when the backing tapes got muddled and Hendrix ended up getting Alan Prices' "The House That Jack Built" backing track!

Mary was on the 1967 rock n roll the greatest years issued in the 80s.

Why the references to Slade & T.Rex under a programme number from 1967, when they obviously come from programmes years later?
