All Omissions are now updated and others corrected Thanks Any more additions would be welcomed and added to the database. Regarding the promo's included, since these exist in the BBC i saw fit to include them, 1. because they were originally shown on totp and may no longer exist anywhere else. 2. Perhaps some of them may be 'specially filmed' for totp (i can't say either way).

I've got a lot of the paperwork here, Paul, and can say that (apart from a cache of TOTP filmed promos from 1970 to about 1974) the majority of the filmed promos that survive were made outside of the BBC (e.g. Flowers In The Rain, Visions, plus the NEMS-shot Beatles VT promos etc). I can give you the details of which are BBC-shot (and therefore which warrant inclusion in a TOTP archive listing) and which are not, if you want.

I've added the recent 'uncovered' performances and photos to the database. If i've missed any, please let me know. Since we have a few new members this year perhaps somebody has some more details of clips that exist. Any information would be welcome and added to the database once confirmed. homepage.ntlworld.com/e.watkins/musictv/interest.htm

Unless the R and R greatest years tape is a different version; this clip appeared on the BBCs 'SOUNDS OF THE SIXTIES' and hails from either '10 YEARS OF TOP OF THE POPS' 1973 or 'POP GO THE SIXTIES'. One of these appears to use a chunk of one of the 64 Xmas specials which presumably was still held complete at the time the former shows were compiled. 66 - The 'PAPERBACK WRITER' edition has not been previously stated as being held by a U.S. broadcaster but having been sold on with a second 66 complete edition; by a private collector to another in the 1990s. 67 - WIND CRIES MARY (Hendrix). This recording is believed to be owned by the Hendrix estate and is a private off air recording of the appearence. It is mute but a reel to reel recording; minus intros; of the appearence exists as an audio in a private collection. 68 - WONDERBOY (Kinks). The Dutch TV station is 'Veronica'. 69 - SUGAR SUGAR (audience dancing). It was believed at one point this was a redub of the audience form a 1971 show redubbed for the BBCs 'TV HEROES'. 1970 - INSTANT KARMA. The 'Lennon legend' version is a studion performance but and NTSC copy. The version on a 1970 complete TOTP T/R is a TOTP film set to the song utilising various clips from bed in news footage and the BBCs '24 hours in the life of John and Yoko'. I hadn't heard of a WINDMILLS OF YOUR MIND performance turning up. When was this?

P.S. Oh and VISIONS. This is indeed mute; but I think the film is in the BBC archive.
Presumably the sound was on a seperate mag reel which was lost; but it could be redubbed using the record.

Rock And Roll Greatest Years was a commercial video release series some years ago (not to be confused with either the BBC's R & R Years series or Sounds Of The '60s!). The Righteous Bros. the clip was used there, I believe. There have been a number of TOTP clips used in this way, sometimes they are ones that don't reside at the BBC (e.g. The Kinks' Autumn Almanac).

Just to add I think that the inclusion on the web site of promos shown on TOTP is a good idea as this represents some of what went out for researchers.
However a subheading should be included to cover this I.E. 'Promo = record or independent outside BBC produced short shown on TOTP'.
Amongst those I also identified are as follows - the GUDBUY T' JANE promo on WALL OF HITS (SLADE).This was definitely shown several times to represent the song; and I believe on the B+W July 73 rediscovered show there's a studio performance.
The HAPPY JACK (WHO) film is documented as 'having been shot by the group at Shepperton specifically for TOTP' when they decided they would not appear to promote it. They later did appear in the end.
For TRAFFIC the 'HOLE IN MY SHOE'; (is this Jim Capaldi on vocal?); film on ROCK AND ROLL GREATEST - VHS. This was definitely used - albeit in monochrome - on TOTP as I recognised it when I saw it.
Others I'm vague about. Seem to think the BARRY RYAN 'ELOISE' film ZDF have was on TOTP but don't seem to think the Moody Blues 'Whiter shade' and Keith West 'Teenage opera' promos similar period; were.
