What is the date/origin of this clip? It's driving me bonkers! It says on Totp2 it's from the 300th show but I think that's wrong. Could it be they have put the music onto footage from a different totp?

Hi Stephen!
It says on the database it's a promo video and wiped for that date.

Could it be they have put the music onto footage from a different totp? Yes, deliberately decieving it is too. The giveaway though should be the fact that some of the shots are repeated twice! The footage is from a 1971 edition but they merged it with The Archies' song. It did my head in as well when I first saw it but there is no officially surviving footage from the 23/10/69 TOTP edition at all (it wouldn't have been in colour either, being still a few weeks away). But the audience did dance to Sugar Sugar in that way though as I remember watching on such an occasion in 1969 (on other occasions they used the cartoon clip or the clip combined with audience shots).

I knew there was something odd about it!
Thanks!
What song were they originally dancing to?

No problem, Kev. I think it was mentioned on here (or the old TOTP2 board) a while back.

No, that's not it. The clip in question had a very busty girl in a leather dress, and a pretty blonde girl in purple shorts, featured prominently. TOTP2 didn't really have a clip from the 300th show, so mugged one up with the Paul McCartney track. LOL at the bloke dancing at 2'44 in the Youtube clip. S.

I see that this clip has been removed due to BBC pressure. How petty can an organisation be over a 35 year old top 30 chart rundown.

App that caption comes up for whatever reason they remove a clip (e.g. unsuitable, or people moaning about it doesn't play properly etc). All the other TOTP stuff is still up. S.
