Obviously at this stage I’m now thinking that I am again the subject of some dishonesty, considering I was told that the tape I sent Chris contained no picture whilst every one so far has video . I doubt that there's any dishonesty involved. Recovering material from early domestic tapes isn't an exact science. Even tapes stored in identical conditions deteriorate at slightly different rates due to reasons which are often hard to discern. In addition, some recordings can only be recovered on certain players, again due to issues related to deterioration. As tapes decay, the video signal often seems to go first so it is entirely possible that you sent Chris a 'bad' tape where the video signal had become irrecoverable or had become incompatible with the player he had access to. It is not unusual for a few 'bad' tapes to turn up in a collection of otherwise good quality recordings. Besides I can't see how Chris could benefit from misleading you about the contents of a tape...

Ron thank you for giving us this much valued update after so many years. It's really appreciated. Although you encountered rancour and hostility from a few hotheads at the time, i hope you realize the majority of members here were very excited by your posts and supported you wholeheartedly. And I must say you always went to meticulous lengths to furnish detailed answers to everyone's questions which must have expended a lot of your time and energy. So good on you for being the bigger man to shrug off all that negativity and give us this welcome update today. I'm the guy who was after one of the Cliff Richard tapes you may recall.Do keep us posted re. any future developments

My name is Ronnie and am the owner of these tapes .Since I still get emails regarding these I decided to come on here and update everyone .At the time of listing these in 2007 I was in contact with Chris Perry and Lance who went a little way towards restoring my faith in the BBC since many years ago they stole the two tapes that I sent them. The 39 left were listed on Ebay as blank tapes and sold for £6,600.I did not go ahead with the sale and sent the deposit back to the buyer .This was mainly because even though I was confident there was film on these (due to various references on the boxes ,and who the previous owner was) I was not happy to sell them on this basis . If by chance I sold these and it turned out there was no material on them then neither I nor the buyer would have been happy. So I had to get the right equipment ,find a CV2000 and see for myself either way .I did write in a previous post that I had a friend, who at one time used to have a recording studio, to help. I came across a CV2100 yrs ago and quite recently my friend managed to get the audio off the tapes and put them on CD for me. After this I knew pretty much what was on them. In the meantime at the request of some of your members, mainly Chris , I decided to send a tape so they could find out if it contained film. Chris returned the tape a while later but informed me there was no film on this at all .I could not believe this and I think Chris posted that I was not happy as I firmly believed that my bundle of videos contained picture. Anyway very recently I eventually managed to find the appropriate equipment necessary to play these and mainly due to some modifications by my friend, made it possible to rig this up in my house in order to prove if my hunch was correct or not. Since I took possession of the tapes ,they have only been out of their storage case once to take pics for the Ebay listing and the second time was app 2 yrs ago when my friend succeeded in putting them on CD for me . No one has ever seen even the boxes for these tapes except for me and my friend. Very recently after rigging the video player up I got the first tape (no1) from its box and played it on the machine .To my utter delight there was film! But much more exciting was the fact that it was in such good condition considering it had come straight from obscurity on to the player, and also taking into account the age of these tapes. I have now played 21 tapes and each tape contains film .Obviously at this stage I’m now thinking that I am again the subject of some dishonesty, considering I was told that the tape I sent Chris contained no picture whilst every one so far has video .Maybe it is a little early to judge as there are many more tapes to play again .I have taken a few pics from the tapes playing on the tv monitor with an old phone in order to prove all this, and was going to post them here but I have been told that this forum does not allow pics. At the time of listing (2007) after I refused to go ahead with the sale ,the peeved original buyer went around various forums manufacturing stories such as, that all the tapes were blanks .So I now feel obliged to update everyone from back then that there is film on these old tapes (well on 21/21 so far lol) ,thank you Would be very interested to see some of the photos Ron, could you post some on here?

Hi Ronnie
I am delighted if you have had more success with other tapes. Your tape was checked by Peter Crocker, an excellent restoration expert who has worked for the BBC for many years. There is no reason to think that he or I misinformed you.
And what would have been the point anyway? If we had found rare content on the tape we would have transferred it for you and the whole world would know by now what was discovered.
I wish you every success with your transfers.
Chris

Ron, just re-read your post, this forum does have pictures posted on quite a few threads, and in order to validate your post posting one or two would be more than ok. Would you also be able to detail exactly what still plays from these tapes and their condition if possible.?

Hi Paul, nice to talk with you once again.I have actually taken up Rob Moss's offer of sending him pics so he can host them on a site he uses so all of you can view them.I have already sent him a few with a few more to follow.I have a poor camera phone but the pics I suppose are ok considering this. The camera also reflects across the pics.My main intention to send pics was to show to everyone that my collection contains film, contrary to many persons beliefs at that time of listing.I realise that the previous buyer did not do much good in enhancing my, or the collection's reputation.I have never hidden my intentions and I'm sure you are aware Paul that my aim was always to sell these, but I have always tried to help out your members with any enquiries they have had.I have even now just answered someone's enquiry regarding the film used for Alice Cooper's 'I wanna be elected'.I was able to tell him that the TOTP version I have here is different to the two that are on Youtube.Mine has an interviewer go round asking around 6 members of the public their views on whether Alice Cooper should be elected.I did not see a car on this either. If the 7 tapes I have left to view then they will ALL contain film so fingers crosses.I have also been updating some of the info on my list as it is so much easier when you see what is happening. As I said I will try send some more pics later for Rob so please get in touch with him, regards,Ronnie

I'm glad that these tapes have finally borne some fruit. There are some great clips among the original listings you supplied here. I'll look forward to Rob posting the pictures on the site he uses.

Evening, folks!
happy to confirm that I have received a number of photos over the course of today - many thanks to Ronnie for sending them. I am actually still at work, but if you give me a few minutes, I'll try and pop them up onto my Photobucket account and embed them here. I may even start a new thread!
Back in a little while...
