The Winner of this item needs to be contacted about this rare footage. Or the BBC should step in and see if it is indeed missing, and is needed for thier archive.

Looking at the 16mm can, it's almost certainly a 400-500 foot size. The film inside only takes up about half of that which means 200-250 feet at best. Divide by 36 and you get 6-7 mins. Some of that will probably be leader which means that if the presenter's intro is included, it won't be more than one song most likely. I think you can disregard the other artists appearing scenario. Damn. To be honest I thought the same thing when I first saw the pic, but then my knowledge of such things is limited, so when the description was changed to say it should contain a whole episode, I was prepared to take the seller's word for it. But thanks for providing an informed opinion, anyway Yeah, asking potential buyers to provide a copy is pretty cheeky. But still, if he just got it transferred himself privately then it would never've ended up on eBay and probably disappeared without trace. So maybe his laziness is a blessing in this case. Or the BBC should step in and see if it is indeed missing, and is needed for thier archive. Well, in an ideal world, maybe. But given stories that people have told on this board of the BBC not bothering to take back known missing material even when it's offered to them, the odds of them actively intervening where a) it's by no means clear it it does involve missing material; and b) the notice period is so short are pretty slim to say the least. Also, there's not much motive for the seller to co-operate when it would mean him losing out on whatever money he would've otherwise got for it.

Owner of this footage has today withdrawn this from sale. So perhaps we'll never know....

I guess that could mean that the beeb did get in touch after all. Or it could mean that the whole thing was a wind up and it never existed to begin with.

You're right it is difficult to say how big the reel is, but it could be the whole show, and I would think quite a few were sent out in this way.
Intersestingly, this may also be the source of the purple haze clip, and doesn't the Ha Ha said the Clown also exist?, possibly from the same show

If the BBC had contacted the buyer there would be no reason to stop the auction- they would have just wanted to take a copy surely- they certainly wouldn't have paid for it. I don't think it was a hoax either- The Tremeloes are hardly the most collectable band, I think a hoaxer would have posted something more enticing ! Has anyone tried contacting the seller since it was taken down to ask why ?
