I know what you mean Stephen, as i never found them very funny either. All i know is they seemed to be a springboard to success for Goldie Hawn and a few others.

i had 2 lps of rowan&martins but didnt really get the jokes, sorry. Quite understandable. I remember Laugh-In being quite a visual tv series. It was notable for its rapid-fire sketches, some of which could be thirty seconds or under. Lots of sixties American-related humor, also. There are a couple of best-of DVDs that have been released. Those would probably give you a better idea of the show's character.

Lily Tomlin is probably the best known of the comedians that got their first recognition on "Laugh-In". Arte Johnson and Ruth Buzzi come in a tied in a distant third. Judy Carne, Burt Reynolds first wife, was also an original cast member.

although their jokey 1970 prediction of Ronald Reagan being president in 1980 is rather spooky, and the later series partly written by Barry Took, Marty Feldman and Jeremy LLoyd are better.

Are you talking about "Laugh-In" being written by Marty Feldman? Didn't know that. Actually, I didn't much go for the latter years. At least not the final season. That was the one without Arte Johnson.

wasnt "here comes the judge" and "sock it to me" from the said show too?. Yep every tie Judy Carne said "sock it to me", she'd get water splashed on her (no wonder she left after two seasons or so). Actually, Aretha Franklin's "Respect" predates "Laugh-In" a by a year or so. The phrase was inserted into the Otis Redding song by her sister, Carolyn, along with the spelling out of R-E-S-P-E-C-T., if I remember correctly.
