According to David Morgan's 'Monty Python Speaks', the animation *was* in the original transmission but cut for the repeat. And it was Cleese who was worried about it.
Not sure about the 'terminal cancer' line though.
Oh, I wish someone knew all this stuff...

I just got a note from Christine at the BBC. They do not have this footage - I'm going to send her the print so that they can make a copy for the archives.

Well if it never appears as a DVD extra, there's no excuse.

Finally someone is discussing this ;D I do know for a fact this was shown on Colour videotape on PBS back in the 70's (I remember it well) I recorded it on audio tape and distinctly remember my mother thinking the Jesus part was horrible. Any chance there is still a Time Life reel on video floating around anywhere?

Incredibly old subject by now, but I'd like to add U.K. AND U.S. DVD's are censored. I saw the "summarise proust" on DVD and the "masturbating" was now not only muted, but also completely cut out. So I do not have much hope for this scene.

Can this be recolourized using available footage etc, or will it forever be b/w?

I believe that some site did recolourize both parts of this and the preceding crackpot religions sections that were also cut and are on t/r. Obviously the "another 30 seconds" can be used for a base, but the big q is still whether the actual footage is in some box somewhere, or outright gawn................

If you mean the missing footage, as far as I know Steve sent his film copy to the BBC, and my tape copy is about 15 feet away as I type this. Or are you referring to the original insert?

Isn't Terry Gilliam supposed to have kept all the original animation film inserts? If so, it would bode well for a proper restoration when Python eventually makes it to DVD proper (not counting the awful current compilation).

Both the U.K. and the U.S. set are unfortunately censored. Can you make this footage perhaps available for fans like myself? Please?

[quote author=StevenS BTW - Laurence, all of MPFC is out on DVD in the USA. Ends up being under 100 quid for the entire series. [/quote]
Yes I know but i'll be waiting for a comprehensive, restored, unedited, series-by-series original PAL release (with all the extras a series of it's stature deserves). In the meantime, i'll make do with my VHS off-airs as serviceable viewing copies.

The "missing footage" is the snipped bits. I understand that copies exist, but to the best fo my knowledge they are in b&w. I heard that there are still various crates of some unknown footage stored away, and that some of these may contain original footage, hopefully in colour. The other idea was using the frames from "another 30 seconds" as a guide for recolourising the footage that you have, but is in b&w. Or you can get the guys at the Doctor Who Restoration site to do a weak-lined colour restoration that looks like it was shot in someone's outhouse..........

Sorry to bring this one back again, but will this ever see the (commercial) light of day?
