What is the state of the Colour Me Pop archive? Also, what was the general format of the show as all the clips I have seen seem to suggest extended album based performances from the likes of The Moody Blues (InSearch fof the Lost Chord) and The Small Faces (Ogdens Nut Gone Flake)? Did the bands mime, as it appears, or play live?

It varied. Some of the surviving material seems to be partly live, partly mimed and some numbers partially live over a pre-recorded backing track. Some editions seemed to use filmed inserts of acts miming as well. I gather some other editions (missing) were recorded at actual gigs, such as the Fairfield Halls Croydon. So a bit of a mixed bag but with the general idea to present the bands as near to a "real" performance situation as possible.
Not many survive officially; the Small Faces, Moody Blues and The Move editions plus two songs from The Bonzos edition (although at least one more song exists "out there" somewhere). There are also a few film inserts and one untransmitted edition, according to Kal (Chambers Bros). A b/w copy of the edition featuring The Nice is also apparently existing unofficially. I understand the series was sold overseas, which increases the chance of further material being out there. I certainly hope so - personally i'd really like to see the rest of The Bonzos edition and those featuring The Kinks, Manfred Mann, The Hollies, Fleetwood Mac and others!

Oh, and the Frank Zappa one seems to exist too as most of it's been repeated in more recent times (either surviving complete or a large chunk of - not sure). I forgot that one.
