Hi just been watching this TOTP clip again and was wondering which archive it is sourced from. It's had an official release over the years on the "Rock and Roll the Greatest Years.." but of course it doesn't exist in the BBC archive. Interesting that sixties TOTP footage was being sold to other countries , is there more in the archive where this came from? What TV show was it used in??

The TOTP version of 'Autumn Almanac' was used on the 'Remember The 60's Vol 3' DVD issued by BR Music. It's credited on the DVD as being from Vjoew from 04/11/67. Not sure what show this is but maybe they might have further TOTP performances?

Almost certainly a Dutch source for this clip.
The Kinks were/are massive in Holland.
This Strange effect by Dave Berry was number 1 for 8 weeks asnd is still the biggest selling single.
Cyril Van Den Hemel made/produced the r and r series and that sounds Dutch.
The Wonderboy clip must have Dutch origins too.
I preume the coloured Zabadak comes from the same source.
It would be great if more of the same totp episode survives although there may be just those two great clips.

Yes, almost certainly Dutch (hopefully the source for further missing UK material too - I wonder which channel's archive they come from there?) I was wondering if - being as The Kinks are as big as they are in Holland - a copy of the bands' Colour Me Pop resides there (even if in b/w)? I understand the series was sold widely overseas...

;DThankyou all for your reply, I to believe it's from the netherlands definitely _not Beat Club. "Vjoew" sounds like a very interesting programme for lost TOTP clips, what research has been carried out into this possible source?

I imagine the archive for those European shows are pretty hit and miss, Beatclub aside which is almost complete.
I have heard rumours that the Kinks Colour Me pop exists in russia, but it is only a rumour.

"Vjoew" sounds like a very interesting programme for lost TOTP clips, what research has been carried out into this possible source? Not any by the BBC it seems. If they pulled their finger out, there are literally dozens and dozens of TOTP clips that are known to be sitting in overseas archives, and that is without the unknown ones. There is a fantastic TOTP dvd waiting to be compiled that takes in all those Disco clips and some earlier missing sixties ones too. I didn't buy the one that came out because there was not enough of the performances I wanted on it. I thought it was very poor. If they are going to release this sort of thing as compilations rather than whole editions then decade by decade dvds is the way to do it. I personally don't want nineties clips sittig alongside sixties ones on the same disc

Couldn't agree with you more Gary! If your a fan of good music (in my opinion the 60s and 70s were best) you don't want other decades on it getting in the way as i'm sure fans of todays music wouldn't appreciate lots of old black and white clips turning up between there boy bands, of course this is a generalisation but basically DVD's enable you to put out whats left of 60's TOTP in it's entirety visual and audio. Decade releases are the best way!
