Having watched the rolling stones video 25x5 i have seen a rare clip of the band performing 2000 light years. Does anyone know if this is from top of the pops as according to the database they recorded the song for the show.

I think that may have been a promo

Yes, it's a colour promo. I'd like to see the whole thing actually (short snippets are often used but no more). They did make one studio appearance on TOTP with the song though, although it's obviously missing.

I have a copy of the full promo and I believe it's the first Stones promo that they actually mime the lyrics to. All previous promos didn't have them performing to the song. It looks like it's been filmed in b/w and then tinted in different colours, a bit like "All My Loving" documentary.

Have any of the Stones' promos been officially released in full? Particularly want to see the Bosie/Wilde We Love You one - that 25x5 doc was a bit of a tease for such things!

I always assumed it was a colour t/r (hence the unsubtle colours). Tinting would explain it. Is it an interesting promo? I wonder why they chose to film that song out of many at that time?

The whole thing was shown in the '80s (on Omnibus: Video Jukebox). I have it here. About the only time it has seen the light of day in it's entirety since the '60s, i'd imagine.

The is the Video Rewind which was released in the 80's and consists of 12 promo's mainly from the 70's. If you want to see 2000 light years, post me a message and I'll see if I can sort something out. Here's an interesting Stones site for videos www.stones.at/stones/video.htm

Looks like the Rolling Stones youtube site are starting to add promo videos from ABKCO era in HD quality. The site has all promo video's from 70's onwards but never had anything from the 60's until 3 months ago. "2000 Light Years From Home" has been added in the best quality I've ever seen.

Hopefully we'll get 'Child Of The Moon' in similar quality soon! Here it is looking pretty good (strangely, partly in b&w and partly in colour):
