[/img]if i could have a dream wish come true, my wish would for all the archive editions of top of the pops from 1964-1969 restored, but i know that is impossible which is sad because i feel we the license fee payers have been robbed.
tops in 2005 is rubbish and i will never watch it again
they are trying to make it appeal to the young trendy people but its not working.
i also hate tops 2 because all you see is the same old lousy clips we have seen so many times before and i hate the way they edit each clip.
why cant we see the presenters announcing the groups and singers?
one thing i would like to see is when Davy Jones and jimmy saville co presented tops in June 1968.
there is a clip Ive got on video tape and its a camera shot of the audience dancing and I'm sure i saw Davy Jones doing that dance that he seemed to do alot in which he would kind of twist his hips and then clap his hands.
he was wearing a frilly shirt with striped trousers and a beaded necklace.
does anyone remember seeing that clip?
also i would love to see when john peel presented the show during the 60's and Kenny Everett and Simon Dee and even emperor Roscoe.
not even a photo exists of those guys on tops during the 60's!! don't tell me those have been destroyed(thats if they even existed?!!)
there are 2 clips of Stuart henry presenting the show i have.
one in which he is introducing Sandie shaw who sang a French song monsieur DuPont.
and the 2nd one is in which Stuart talks about cliff Richard being in the music business for 10 years and that his latest hit was gonna big a huge hit.
and what about Dave cash nervously presenting amen corner's bend me shape me!!
he seemed freaked out by the whole thing!
i just think its so unfair what the BBC did to most of those early shows.
just think of the ratings that would generate from say devoting a weekend to the early editions of tops?
people like watching old stuff on the TV and it brings back good memories for those who were around at the time and actually appeared on the shows.
i remember that thing the BBC did a few years ago, it was called a day in the sixties
what a load of rubbish it was!!!
i actually stayed in all day and taped it all, although Ive got half of it now on videotape.
but i thought it was very disappointing.
if that was meant to represent a day in the 60's i dint think many people would have wasted their time watching TV then.
i mean where was Dee time? that was possibly the biggest pro gramme from 1967-1969 and yet not one single episode was shown or mentioned!
then you had tops which was also a big ratings winner and again not one full episode was shown
i know that the Xmas edition of tops 1967 is the only complete shown left in the archives and again nothing was shown except the tired old clips that are dragged out over and over again.
OK i know that Dee time wasn't on every day and tops was shown at 7.30pm on a Thursday.
but still they could have shown them regardless but instead we got Marshall McLuhan!!
who the hell remembers him?
the whole thing was pathetic and although I'm not exactly sure of the ratings for that day i wouldn't be surprised if the ratings were very low!!
why devote a whole day and evening to a day in the sixties and then show the worst pro grammes around?
for example where was Dixon of dock green? or z cars?
and play for the day?
those 3 were very big in the sixties and again weren't even mentioned.
i know it must have been difficult getting the time schedules right but i think they could have done alot better than the rubbish shown that day and night.
