Just been watching the Goodies - 'Do The Funky Gibbon' performance from TOTP 10/4/75 which although a repeat performance, differs from the 20/3/75 original by featuring some additional inserts, ie short clips of Emperor Rosko AND some seperate shots of Pans People dancing together with the Goodies in the studio.
As the 6/3/75 performance is marked as missing in the TOTP database I was wondering if these short clips of The Goodies and Pams People could have been from the 6/3 episode, or if the Goodies just happened to be in the studio on the 10/4 ?? It would seem a little strange for the Goodies to be in the studio and not perform their song live, instead just appear in some very brief inserts.

I may have answered this one myself ! According to the following link, the TOTP Orchestra may have had difficulty backing the 'Funky Gibbon' so on the 10/4 performance the Goodies may have taken the easy way out and appeared in the studio with Pans People rather than having to re-create their live sing-a-long again. Check out the following link, lots of great info about appearing with the TOTP Orchestra :- www.loadofold.com/boots/totp.html//Clive

Interesting link, that - bit harsh on the old TOTP band, though! Some of the mid-70s stuff is pretty grim sounding, (Funky Gibbon being a case in point), but in the late 60s/early 70s they had some really good musicians like Herbie Flowers and Alan Parker (both of whom went on to work with Jeff Wayne, which may explain why he was quite kind about the orchestra!) The Tempations' TOTP version of 'I Can't Get Next To You' knocks spots off the record!
