this is probably one for Pete, Laurence et al
since the recent re-descovery of the Who's "The Seeker" is there any chance that it was the same show as KCs "Cat Food"? if so (or not) is there any realistic chance, or rumour, that their only TOTP performance still exists, according to the ecellent Database the date was 26th March, 1970 presenter Jimmi Saville.

Hmm, maybe about the same chance as a lot of other stuff from TOTP of the same period turning up, I suppose. I don't know where / how that Who clip came from exactly but I suppose there was a slightly better ratio of that turning up than King Crimson (i.e. because The Who were a name band at that point and the clip was more saleable to another TV channel). Hard to say though; lots of imponderables - i'd like ANY TOTP from the '60s / early '70s to reappear! There must be more out there somewhere...

There must be more out there somewhere... yes there must be, the most popular pop show, popular being the operative word, I find it inconceivable that more pirate copies weren’t made, its the sort of thing that people pirate these days second only to Movies, it had broad appeal and came in a handy stealable 16mm briefcase size, who wouldn't want a copy of their favourite group doing live performance, just the sort of thing to show at parties. The SinnerSaint must have had fellow copiers.

also on a related topic, does anyone know if the Giles Giles and fripp Tyres advert (goodyear I think) still exists?

What? They recorded the music for an ad or appeared in one? Can you describe the ad just in case I recall it? It may well survive but no guarantees...

made in 1968 before the colour me pop I think because it was their first real appearance, they were a fictional group in a tv advert, showing how a group rely on their tyres to get from gig to gig, female model hired to play the singer later married one of the Giles Brothers, just a way of linking tyres to a hip image realy. don't realy know anything else realy it is rather obscure, it may never have been shown, info on it is scarce.

bad news, I'm afraid. Sid replied thus:
"Sorry to say but the advert was not listed as being in stock by the Dunlop film archive when I reseached this back in 2001. That's not to say it doesn't exist in the hands of a private collector who probably wouldn't know who the featured "group" was anyway. "

Dunlop, yes , not goodyear. Shame, thanks anyway and thank sid for me, this has to be on of the most obscure GG&F collectables anyway, does he know if it was ever shown?
and I should think there's a copy somewhere, probably turn up on an ad reel in a film dealers catalogue one day.
