As keen fan and collector of The Shadows music, has any early footage (50`s if possible) survived?..I think their performance on "Thank Your Lucky Stars" was wiped / lost...I would be grateful if anyone knows what does, does not survive.
Thanks
David T.

TYLS wiped.
I have a pop promo of them circa 67 doing a mock sword fight.
What track would this be?
A small fragment of Don't Make My Baby Blue survives.
I know a bloke in France who has put together a good on paper looking dvd of the shads.
Let me know if you want details.

Very little early Shads survive..... they back Cliff on his ATV Saturday Spectaculars from 1960. Three of those survive from March, May and July that year.
But alas Cliff's manager, Tito Burns, keen to nurture Cliff as an all-round entertainer, refused to let the Shads perform in their own right. Even during the July 1960 show when Apache was at No.1. There are several surviving performances from 1961 and 1962 including a May 62 Billy Cotton segment which has come to light.

No it doesnt sadly. Theres a Jack Good produced promo filim of Apache from 1960. One of the few surviving Crackerjacks from BBC on 27 April 1961 features the Shads performing "The Frightened City" and "FBI". During Cliff's 6 part ATV series in 1961 Cliff's manager once again turned down requests by the Shadows to perform some of their hits during the series. He relented once ... allowing them to perform FBI on the 2 March 1961 show. A short clip of this was included on the Beatles Anthology.

Re Thank Your Lucky Stars-as far as I know there are only three eps left. One of which is hosted by Jim Dale and features a group called The Londonaires who come on wearing bowler hats and umbrellas and start singing a song about Mrs.Peel called "Dearest Emma". I can't speak for the content of the rest of the shows because that was the only bit shown at NFT Avengers night in late 1999. The best thing to do would be to try and get in touch with the Shadows band members themselves to see if they have anything in their own collections. Or just keep scanning ebay as latly quite a bit of old TV (ie lost) has strated turning up.
