Reading Kaleidoscope listings recently noted apparent Lulu show omissions.
'Lulus back in town' BBC 1968 and 'LULU' BBC 1975 listed. -
Wasn't there also 3 specials 'Happening for Lulu' 1969, and a 1970 series 'Its Lulu' from which the 'sounds of sixties' Moody Blues 'Question' clip comes?
'Brit girls' demonstrated some of the surviving Lulu material. Only the obscure 'psychadelic racket' 'Love loves to love love' (1967) and another (forgotten) 1969 performance seem to exist of the TOTP performances. The better known hits are sometimes represented by 'Lulus back in town' such as 'The boat that I row' 1967. That show (channel 4 documentary) showed an interesting tape (T/R ?) clip of an audience show doing 'I'm a tiger', 1960s. 'Man who sold the world' TOTP where Bowie additionally wore a white brimmed gangster hat to Lulu, seen I think on a side strut of a T shaped stage with Lulu in centre, playing sax, is missing.
ITV 'Ready steady go' 'Shout' (1964) exists. I recalled that from the time I think. Can anyone add or amend these details, as to what exists, other appearences, and what the source of the 'I'm a tiger' clip could be ?

Can someone confirm this Bowie appearance from memory? Has anyone got a copy of this for trade?
Thanks,
Tim

I can confirm the Lulu TOTP clip of Man Who Sold The World with her wearing the white brimmed gangster hat (as I saw it myself). A lot of her '60s stuff seems to be missing. I recall another appearance for Shout at the time of the singles' release on a weekday ITV kid's programme (possibly Five O Clock Club or similar) with her and the group miming in the outdoors.
As far as what exists, there is also some Beat Club material (such as an appearance for The Boat That I Row), her Eurovision performance from 1969 and also Pop Goes The Sixties from that same year. The latter two survive in colour. There's also TOTP appearances for Got To Believe In Love and The Clapping Song. These are what spring to mind off the top of my head...

Oh, and there's an appearance of Man Who Sold The World from German TV in which Lulu dresses similarly to the TOTP appearance (although on TOTP she danced and moved around more, whearas on the German appearance she stands fairly static).

Brief newsreel footage also survives of her leaving the church with Maurice Gibb after getting married in 1969. The other Bee Gees and I think Cathy McGowan are also in attendance. Silent footage from memory. And there's that 'Ely's Coming' promo clip which is a colour clip from the early 70s. Cheers LD

'The Clapping song': wasn't that a Phil Spector group track, think the Lulu track is 'Everybody clap' - ?. In addition I recalled there are two other 'Man who sold the world' performances existing. One is a film promo with black background, where shes in the white gangster hat, through vaseline filters. This appears on 'Rock & Roll greatest years 1974' VHS. The other is on a 1975 'LULU' show. I think the 1975 series all exists. The B/W 'ITS LULU' titles are probably from the existing shows overlapping '69 - '70, from a colour transmission master. I think the 'Nasty nigel' clip is from a 'Young generation' BBC 70s special. Theres one from about 71 - 72. Incomplete clip of a flop; 'Hum a song'; exists on an internet posted 1969 sequence of missing TOTP which now exists at the BBC. Recent documentary showed a variety clip B/W telecine of a variety show for 'To Sir with Love'. Looked as though it may've been slightly later than '66, possibly American as it was a hit there I think. The ATV Aberfan disaster tribute show from 1966 turned up at a recent 'Missing believed wiped'. Sean Connery presented. Lulu was one of the guests. I don't recall the song/s performed being her hits. The show is on colour V/T (!) I think the 'I'm a tiger' clip I saw was NTSC tape. 'Boat that I row' is I think a 1968 performance from 'Lulus back in town', oddly named as it was her first show, sounding like a sequel. 'Around Scotland' schools programme on 60s Britain showed news footage looking 1966 of Lulu touring her hometown talking to locals. As far as I know, all that survives of the 'Happening for Lulu' 1969 specials are the performances by Hendrix and The Ivys (Badfinger; soon to be). Only Lulus spoken intros survive.
