I have all of these, for all you pirates out there the entire 4.7GB dvd images were available a few weeks ago to dump down off the net. They are ok - the only fault is that in a few places obviously the entire song does not exist in the archives used to makes the dvds and so they have overdubbed with a brand new audio track and at the beggining of the clip they pause the video whilst the audio catches up to the existing video and then the video plays........except it looks like they have used an old 1980s Furguson VideoStar VHS machine to do the pausing This can be seen especially at the beggining of Manfred Mann's Ha Ha Said the Clown.. idk

Oh dear - I was getting enthusiastic about these sets too! What's the quality of the (presumed) TOTP clips of The Who and Lulu and also the Bowie clip from Novello like? Are they colour? Good quality? Wonder if it's worth buying these for just a few items...

I'd say the complete opposite actually. They make each track as good as possible by sometimes slow motion of the first few secs where the presenter may have been. Sometimes the end few seconds of a song go into slow motion just so you can hear the complete song without the end music cutting off. The Manfred Mann reference is the worse as literally two seconds are frozen just to let the clip start. Nothing else on these series is done shoddy. The perfect opposite I'd say. Some performances are pretty old and I'm pleased they still use them as no-one else is issuing them but 90% of this series is as perfect as we'll ever see these little seen gems. And the sound is fantastic. I'd be very surprised if Laurence, you were disappointed in any of these releases. You won't be!

I see. Can you say if those TOTP clips are actually TOTP though (and colour or b/w)? They might be the deciding factor in me buying it or not, you see! I wanted to know about the Bowie and Beach Boys clips too - what are these like? Promos? Colour? B/W? Any help would be useful...

The Righteous Brothers, Engelbert Humperdinck, Status Quo & Dave Dee Dozy etc are all b&w TOTP performances Laurence.

I can't see what one you're talking about Laurence. I'm on webtv and can only see a big black box? Are you in London? Most of the major HMVs, Virgins etc have odd copies of the Remember The 60's/70's series. I've seen them in Bond Street, Oxford Street, Piccadilly Circus. So far I've not seen any of the Top 40 Jaar DVDs in the shops. I got my two via an Australian pal. I'll keep an eye out for them. Surely they come up on E-Bay once in a while. Price wise, I got a few of the Remember series for £11-99 but noticed this week Oxford Streets stores had them for £19-99.

Damn, I need to get the Bowie clip from the Ivor Novello show. I've got a poor quality copy I downloaded, but I'd love to see a better version of it. I'm still trying to find Remember The Sixties Volume 4 for the Space Oddity clip, but all I ever seem to see in HMV / Virgin are Volumes 1 and 2...

There are copies out there especially from online companies rather than your High St retailers.

Just to add a bit further to the discussions about the Top 40 Jaar DVD series, I also have the first 2 in the series - 65/66 & 67/68. Absolutely sensational in terms of picture and sound. Great restoration of audio on most of the older clips including TOTP's, plus some really rare promotional clips from the likes of Crispian St. Peters, Traffic etc. I don't know anything about this Dutch program "Tienkerladen", but the film clips that come from the show are amazing!! The mind boggles as to what else might be out there. I intend to order the 69/70 DVD plus the other 70's ones as well. This, along with those sensational series of DVD's issued by BR Music Two (Remember the 60's Vols 1-4 and Remember the 70's Vols 1-4) would be the best series of DVD's I have ever seen of original material released anywhere in the world. Not that there are too many other companies issuing the great stuff from this period. I am from Australia, and believe me, there is very little out there that is worthwhile. The only drawback with the Top 40 Jaar series is that you cannot order them directly from BR Music, as that company only compiled the DVD's on behalf of all the major companies who have issued them - EMI, Universal, Sony etc. I have yet to find a Dutch retailer who will order them in and post them overseas. Anyone with a good Dutch contact? There is a link to a Dutch retailer called BIO.com from BR music which looks like it does accept on-line orders with credit cards and has most of the series available, but the entire site is in Dutch and I cannot translate any of it. I used a Canadian site - musicselection.com to get the first 2 copies (65/66 & 67/68) - it's pretty slow as they have to order them from Holland themselves, but they do eventually come through. They no longer accept Credit cards from outside North America though - I only just got in in time!! On another note, in the light of the separate thread regarding the "Remember" DVD series issued by BR Music Two, I see that the "Remember the 60's" series (plus Remember the 70's) is no longer available on the BR music two site - it looks as though these are now deleted. Probably because of the release of this new Top 40 Jaar series I would say. Anyone wanting to get these should act quick - I believe a few retailers from the UK still have them, and I know of one Dutch website that is still offering them if anyone still needs them. Believe me, they are all well worth the money - great original clips from a whole host of UK, German & Dutch programs amongst other things.
