Quite ironic that a BBC news site reports the US screening of what is probably their own material from the Odeon Cinema o/b!!!!!!
read below:
'Lost' Beatles show to be aired Beatlemania took off around the world in 1964 Recently discovered TV footage of The Beatles is to be broadcast for the first time since 1964 on a US award show, organisers have said. The tape of She Loves You and I Want To Hold Your Hand will be broadcast at the American Music Awards on 14 November.
Producer Dick Clark said the footage was from an unnamed English show "that aired here that for some reason or another went into a trunk somewhere".
The two-and-a-half minute tape will be seen on US network ABC's coverage.
Mr Clark said: "We've got a wonderful old... tape that's been lost for 40 years that nobody's seen since it first aired."
Usher is leading the American Music Awards nominations But no more details were available. The American Music Awards ceremony is seen as the biggest rival to the Grammys.
R&B singer Usher leads the field for this year's prizes, with four nominations. Hip-hop duo OutKast and rap star Kanye West have three nominations each.
Usher and Kanye West will also perform at the ceremony, as will veteran rocker Rod Stewart and soul singer Alicia Keys.
Janet Jackson, Nelly, Sheryl Crow and Star Trek actor William Shatner will be among those presenting awards and performers.

BBC Spotlight showed some missing beatles footage the other day being interviewed for local telly when they played playmouth. Quite funny to se Macca offering the interviewer a gay man during the interview Matt

If we could see just a few frames from this footage it'd be easy to identify.

My money is on it being material from It's The Beatles - but whether or not it's any of the offcut fragments that officially survive or new previously-missing material is another matter. Anyone know where it was found and whether it's on VT or T/R?

If it is those sequences then they are nothing new, being used on TV-50 and TOTP-2.

It's going to be an interesting night if the footage they show is from "It's the Beatles", as the raw footage that exists is incomplete and severly edited in both of the songs listed above. Pity if it is these two from the Liverpool Empire show, because "Money" exists in its entirity and is truly superb. I would be seriously surprised if it was from another source (although ITN have their own (incomplete) record of the night).
More likely, I would wager strongly on it being the CBS footage from Bournmouth 16th Nov. A whole chunk of it was recently promoted via a CBS website some months back- but it's been in collectors hands for many a moon.

If anyone reading this actually sees this footage, can they let us know what it actually is?!

Not so exciting........... From Rolling Stone "In other Beatles news, Starr will introduce rare performance clips on the American Music Awards, Sunday, November 14th, on ABC. The footage was originally aired on the network November 15th, 1964, as part of the Around the Beatles special."

I think Simon is right about the footage. If this is the case (which I hope it is not) then will be seeing clips of the medley sequence of Around the Beatles. Unless it is additional footage which aired with the special back in 1964; it is quite a disappointment. The Around the Beatles special has been around for eons and was commercially released in the early 90s.

Just finished watching the AMAs. Nothing new; clips from Around the Beatles. I guess the network is trying to pull a fast one "not seen on network tv for 40 years". Of course they neglect the fact that it was legitimately released on home video over 10 years ago. Major disappointment.

Was it sourced from VT though? Which songs did they show or was it the whole chunk?
They probably are being truthful technically in that it probably hasn't been screened on network for over 40 years - but it HAS been released on VHS!
Wonder how Dave Clark got hold of the rights to release part of it though as it has nothing to do with RSG whatsoever; Mark Lewisohn's book also states that outside of the UK - where copyright stayed with Rediffusion - NEMS was granted rights to (and a copy of) the show.

It looked the same as I always remember it, but they definitely digitally enhanced the soundtrack. It was just she loves you and I want to hold your hand from the medley a little over a minute long.

Dave Clark picked up a whole bunch of stuff in addition to his RSG acquisition including the fabulous "Beat City". But does he hold the rights to this material indefinitely? It must be over 20 years now.l

The Dave Clark video was an extremely shoddy package. Released on 29th April 1985 with the misleading title “Ready Steady Go! The Beatles Live!”, a large chunk of the original show was cut, including the Beatles performing Shakespeare. Worst of all, as John Lennon bid farewell, “All you need is love” was dubbed over the credits (although this song was only recorded 3 years later, it‘s completely out of synch with the mop top era).
The video was all the more disappointing at the time as I think only 2 other Beatle video’s were then officially available, “The Complete Beatles” and “A Hard Day’s Night”.
