Does anyone know what exists from Granadas pop show 'Lift off with aeyshea'? Archive head Sylvia Cowling alleged that a show in which she sang the Roy Wood penned song 'Farewell' (1973) had been wiped. Also that only 2 tapes remained, from 1974. Later Steve Bryant (NFA) who had worked at Granada as I understand, said that from what he could recall, the archive was complete from 1972 onwards. A theory later offered was that the main bulk may have been held in one of the back up stores at Manchester airport. Also that the 2 episodes listed may have been the only items acknowledged as they were accessed for inclusion on the VHS compilation 'Best childrens TV of the decade 1970s' in 1990. Thus these would be the only data that would appear on an available accession list. Apparently T.Rexs appearence was shot on film so wonder what happened to that?

Go to the ITN archive and look up the Granada database.
It's a fascinating if troublesome beast.
One search will give you 3 episodes surviving, including a Christmas 68 one.
There are another two lurking hidden. you have to write key words in like Brough etc. to find them.
I'd love to have a butchers at them as I don't remember the show. Must have been kicking a football when it was on!

I wonder if anyone out there (either working in the archive or otherwise) ACTUALLY know how many Lift Offs survive?!? I've checked those editions out on the database myself too but have doubts as to it's accuracy on a lot of things (e.g. many editions of We Have Ways Of Making You Laugh and The LWT Simon Dee Show are listed as existing!!)
I'd love to see some Lift Off again; I recall the earlier editions more myself, before the "with Ayshea" bit was added to the title. Lots of interesting pop acts were on there and although the presentation was amateurish it would be a rich source of music clips now if it survived!

I believe the other two that survive are 15/10/74 & 17/12/74, the final ever edition.

Thanks Keith for your great help. Your info was right. Apparently in addition opening credits reel for Sep 1970 exist. It is a crying shame nothing from the thick of the glam rock (72 - 73) period exists as I recall the period & name line ups well. Still the archive is better than I thought. I had no idea the series was running in 68!
