was watching the first part of the malcolm arnold south bank show, and they had a bit on the 1970 deep purple group and orchestra thingy, does this exist in full?

Yes, I think you are referring to their 1969 Royal Albert Hall concert where they were backed by full orchestra. There is a 60m version which first appeared on japanese laser disc about 10 years or so.

it has been released on DVD with a new 5.1 sound mix, about the best quality you can get of it, its great

NB its not a bootleg, its a regualr release and came out about 3 years ago

I've always wondered about this event, Matt, never having seen it. Was it a BBC-recorded gig originally and how long is it? I used to like the early Deep Purple a lot in years past but this item always seemed to slip by me somehow! I'm interested to know more about it, obviously being very different from their other output at the time.

it was originally filmed (as in 'film', as opposed to VT) by British Lion Films, nothing to do with ITV or BBC.
