Sorry to drag this thread up again.....
....but
I have just watched the TOTP performance of 'Midnight Train to Georgia' by Gladys Knight and the Pips and whilst I've never cared much for this song (late 70's soul is not my thing) this live vocal/totp orchestra performance is truly superb. The Pips seem to be enjoying adapting their dance routine to the TOTP version and this seems to reflect on the vocals of Gladys. Whilst many people complain that this TOTP 'live' policy was unfair, you just have to see this performance to see a group really enjoying themselves doing what they do.
Altogether it makes a really rocking performance from all concerned and has (yet again) made me respect a song I had previously dismissed.
(Anyone who critcises the TOTP live performance mandate should really see this performance to understand why TOTP is so special)
