Hi there
I was wonderinf if anyone can shed any more light on the clip of 'The Move' used on TOTP2 ronight (Weds 26th). The clip in question was 'California Man' dating from June 1972.
The on screen aston said that this clip has only recently "been returned to the TOTP archive" - does anyone know any more about where this clip was found/what format it exists on? I presume this is obviously it's first outing on TOTP2 as I have never seen this before.
Don't know if it's just me, but it looked like one of the primary colours was missing from the vt - looked like it was in shades of blue/green - the colour didn't look right.
Does anyone know any more about this?

I think from memory the whole episode this clip survives from only exists in faded colour. It's been discussed here in the past, anyway - someone else could no doubt tell you more about it than me. Nice to finally see it, anyway

Two 1972 TOTP tapes were found in 1999 by BBC Scotland.

..thanks for the info Pete.
I am intrigued by what "disc" means (apart from the obvious!) as mentioned in your post and indeed on the BBC TOTP database?

"Disc" means the commercial record was played, usually under shots of the studio audience dancing.

At that time, they play the disc with the audience dancing and then you see the usual top 30 chart rundown on a big screen

The colour? Yeah, given what I'd heard in advance about the state of the clip, it was a pleasant surprise. I was a bit surprised the BBC didn't convert it to black and white for TOTP2 - not because it would've looked any better, but because the colour wasn't up to usual broadcast standards for archive material. But I'm glad they showed it as-is. I did do a capture of the broadcast and tried playing with the colour correction setings on my PC (using TMPGEnc) but I couldn't get it looking much better than it did to begin with, so I gave up.
