Hi all, I don't recall seeing any threads about T.Rex's appearances on missing TOTP, but if there is please bear with me. We've probably all seen the promo video for 20th Century Boy, which appears to use part of a TOTP performance (1.3.73 or 8.3.73) which is missing, according to the TOTP database. I've just been given some reel to reel tapes, one of which features an off-air audio recording of one the stated dates for 20th Century Boy.It's the first song on the tape, and though the announcements are edited out, it's quite a good recording, and for the benefit of any T.Rex fans , it features a live vocal which is particularly different during the fade-out. Also on the tape is Alice Cooper (Hello Hurray) and The Cockerel Chorus (Nice One Cyril). Another tape has an audio recording of the 10th anniversary show (27.12.73) in excellent quality, which features new studio recordings by The Tremeloes, Jonathan King etc. The point I'm making is.........never give up hope, things ARE still out there, even if it's audio only. I'm still going through the tapes, but I'll post another message if anything of interest turns up.

Yes, there have been postings here in the past relating to T.Rex TOTP appearances. You can probably find them if you go back. Just to encapsulate though, a few of their missing appearances are surviving in the German Disco show (there is a 20th Century Boy among them - I don't have the info to hand though). I never give up hope of more turning up (a fair chance, i'd say). That audio of the anniversary show sounds good though - are the BBC interested in a copy of this at all?

Laurence, I've just re-checked the TOTP database, and they have the 10th anniversary special (27.12.73).

Er - yes! I was thinking of the 500th show, which is missing (rather than the 10 years of show, which isn't) and had that in my mind, even though the other one was clearly mentioned! My mistake.

I didn't know the 500th Show was missing : they still show Tony Orlando singing "Tie a Yellow Ribbon" from it at times. How come does that clip survive then? Ah, hold on, maybe they used it again on the 1973 Christmas show, which was repeated a few years back in its entireity on BBC2 (and which I taped!).

there are probably more totp clips around its just that the people who have them are either afraid of getting into trouble, don't want any publicity or are not aware of their value.
