I wondered if anyone knew if second hand working Sony Betamax/Sanyo Betacord machines relatively easy to get hold of for reasonable prices? I know that about 5 or 6 years ago they were, and I'm kicking myslef for not doing anything about it then. Unforunately I made the wrong choice in the early 80s (then in the late 80s and through to the mid 90s was still using Beta as my spare machine). With it on its last legs I've managed to copy about a quarter of my tapes, but I'll be lucky to copy any more than 2 befgore it entirely gives up the ghost!

Depends what you are prepared to pay. I can get hold of a good quality c9 sony which is a front loader, or you can try e bay. Loads on there and some are still boxed and hardly used. I can sell you my c9 but it wont be cheap and I live in Bournemouth so you would have to collect it. I wont risk parcel force with something like that. My e mail is l.haberfield@ntlworld.com if you would like more details on the video.

Thanks - don't want to pay that much as wouldn't want to record anything new. But your reply is encouraging as the format obviously isn't entirely obsolete yet!
