I was wondering if anyone knows if the Kate Bush special she made for the BBC in 1979 is still safe in the BBC archives. It was called simply 'Kate' and featured some early versions of some of her songs as well as a duet with Peter Gabriel that has never been officially released. I know it was repeated at least once around 1980 but it's never been on TV again to my knowledge.

I would think it more than likely does. Kal seem to have omitted it altogether though. It has been bootlegged though as I once saw it at a music / film fair. I had a copy myself but the quality was dire! I do have the soundtrack off-air though. It was a good show (one of Kate's best efforts). A shame it has been forgotten so totally.

It does exist and is very good.
Unfortunately, Kate Bush will not allow it to be released commercially. I don't think she could block a BBC repeat though, unless the original contract terms were unusually restrictive.

Thanks for responding to my question. Good to hear it exists -would be nice if BBC could repeat this sometime - I too have a VHS of it but its a copy of a copy of a copy. I've also got the Nationwide special too from 1979 - again not in great condition, as well as several TOTP appearances and European TV bits and bobs. It's a shame that Kate won't allow this special to be released - although I would think it unlikely that it would be commercially viable anyway as there is not even an official DVD release of her promo videos available.
