“Pop Quest” A Yorkshire Television quiz. I was still in Infant school at the time but I seem to recall it was on Saturday Mornings at one point, but could usually be found on Weekdays around 4:45.
The Presenters were Kid Jensen, then Sally James and finally Mike Read. I thought Kid Jensen and Sally James did it together at one point, in fact - wasn’t there a section in the middle of the programme reserved for reports or a performance? I have a memory of Sally James doing a piece on how record covers were made and the factory happened to be producing copies of the Beatles “White album” that day, but that might just be my memory playing tricks.
One part of the quiz had revolving blocks (‘Question of sport’ style) with past years on them that would reveal a picture of an act from the period, the further back you were prepared to go - the more points. (I think 1969 was the hardest).
Around the same period..... Flintlock. I have one clear memory of Pauline Quirk having orgasms in the studio as Flintlock were going to remove their boxer shorts at the end of the show with the promise that there was absolutely nothing underneath. Males they may have been, but I had never seen anybody naked on TV before and realising that this might be a piece of Kids TV History I continued to watch. Sure enough, at the end of the show they removed their boxers and there was nothing there, literally, you could see straight through them, they were standing in front of a blue screen wearing blue underpants.
One final ITV ‘70s Pop memory, “Magpie” - Lene Lovich, the first time I heard “Lucky Number One”. I don’t remember seeing any Rock acts on “Blue Peter” in the 70s. In the 60s they evidently invited them in from time to time, but in the 70s, I can’t remember anybody.
