Maybe this is a crazy idea that wouldn't work, but maybe we could all make it work! Can't we get a serious group together of collectors who'd be willing to pay a fee to buy a copy of something in the BBC archives. Instead of it costing a lone person over £200, maybe if there was enough of us we could all chip in a tenner each to pay for the show. Sure the money would have to go to someone trustworthy and who knows how to go about purchasing these shows, maybe one of the moderators here would consider it? Also we would need one person who could make digital DVD copies for everyone taking part to ensure we all got the best quality copy available. Maybe we could even rotate each time who decides which show to go for. We could all have an option to be part of it or not? Anyone else have any ideas about this? Mike.

It's been done before many times although the idea of copying for all contributors involved would render it a no-no copyright-wise. Same old red tape sadly impeding an honest interest in obtaining shows we want to see.

You could, but it's probably not a good idea to suggest this in a forum wshere one of the moderators is a BBC employee with a penchant for reporting this sort of thing, Dubs!

Looks like this is no-go. The copyright issue is the big problem. Who can we start mailing demanding these old music shows get some airing. Is BBC3 or BBC4 more likely to show old music shows. Surely even BBC3 could go 'music' all over the weekend, even just once a month, giving the BBC a perfect reason to dig these old classics for us all to re-live once again.

copyright Pete Seaton 22nd August 2003 (this was from my website, until the "Doris" (The Mule) Seaton spoilt everything and I re-Quote : Basically one idea has been mulling in my addled brain for some time. whereby we create a great board of followers who cate about "Our" show so....... this covers all archive material of the BBC what we do is create a guild of fans of the show called...... TOTP Appreciation Society i have the logo in hand already..... then what we do is put this to the BBC, that we all pay a fee, and have special membership cards which last about a year / 5 years or life..... which gets us into TOTP whenever we like.... a certain amount of say how the show is run, and protected being a fan of the show gets us limited edition run of monthly DVD's each of the show which cannot be copied in ANY shape or form as they have copy protection codes in them. (these could cost about the same price of a Dr Who DVD) this will end illegal trading, and will officially protect the BBC Archives from Piracy. and this will be to fans for fans and make the BBC pots of money, (like the Dr Who have) any maybe we will have our own self funded TOTP channel ? one day so this is for us the TOTPaholics and TOTP2vians (which some of us are both) what do you think,as I think we could get this off the ground with a website. also we could include our own fan websites, and spread the word around the world. Pete
