ive just heard that John & Yoko's Instant Karma (Yoko Knitting) NOT telepathizing...... from TOTP 19/02/70 was shown on Whistle Test in the 80's has anybody got this show or the John & Yoko bit on video  ?? |

I remember it was in colour and on film rather than video. After the clip, Mark Ellen (or David Hepworth?) said "That was John Lennon on TOTP, with Yoko doing the knitting!".

Old Grey Whistle Test 31:12:81 Pick of the year showed Instant Karma from a 16mm print.
on 9th Dec 1980 it was shown on a John Lennon OGWT Tribute.
thats the only times as far as I know IK was shown on OGWT

No, it was definitely mid-'80s when I saw it - I wouldn't have remembered it from that far back!
Maybe it was a Whistle Test special - I'm pretty sure it was Mark Ellen or David Hepworth presenting anyway.

There is a SECOND 1970 "Instant Karma" John is next to the Mirrored display. Sadly this clip is somewhat edited down to just under 2 minutes i think

Yes, two Instant Karma clips were shot at the same time for two TOTP editions. As far as I know, the second (less frequently seen) clip only survives as a b/w t/r. I recall seeing it myself on something some years back now - that was probably Whistle Test then, it seems.
I have often wondered where this was sourced from as the BBC don't seem to have it themselves. Possibly (as with the NTSC colour clip?) Yoko's own collection. The clips are quite similar in style. So what's this about it only being a 2 minute edit? Any more info?

so the "Karma" on totp2 this week was from 12/feb/70
why was it so fuzzy?

Didn't see it myself. I taped it on an earlier screening. Was it the colour taoe? If so, it's an NTSC copy, all that seems to exist. It's either 12/2/70 or 19/2/70 (the two clips were shot the same day but it's hard to say which appeared which week).

yes the colour one and it was fuzzy in an ntsc type of way there was a problem with yoko when it was recorded I'm not sure what it was but the director cut most of the planned camera shots of her. interesting to see though, recorded a few weeks into the 70s and a few weeks before the beatles officialy broke up, although they chose the wrong day to anounce it by the following morning all the papers were full of the apollo 13 drama, so they only realy got one days worth of headlines.

Well there was a clip of the 'knitting' version on Later with Jools last night and it was in proper broadcast quality.
Apparently it's from a forthcoming Lennon DVD.

I have a colour copy of the 2 minute clip where the set is that semi - hemisphere mirrored set, you virtually can't see the audience. It's fair condition, just a shame it's edited.
