Noel Edmonds has just mentioned on his radio 2 show that he has a lot of his early TV appearances on betamax video which he can no longer play as he doesn't have equipment to play them on. A possible source of missing TOTP's ?

If they are on Betamax, doesn't this indicate that they won't be particularly old - say early eighties?

I wrote to Noel at his Radio 2 E-mail address to ask if he could clarify as to why none of his hosted editions of TOTP's were not shown by UK Gold when they screened the show in the 90's.
Sadly I did not receive a reply.
It will be interesting to see if the situation has changed when UK Gold start showing the programme again in the new year.

Are UK Gold definately going to start showing Top Of The Pops again in the new year? I never knew this was about to happen. Any other info about this anyone?

I wrote to Noel at his Radio 2 E-mail address to ask if he could clarify as to why none of his hosted editions of TOTP's were not shown by UK Gold when they screened the show in the 90's. Sadly I did not receive a reply. It will be interesting to see if the situation has changed when UK Gold start showing the programme again in the new year. It appears that Noel Edmonds not allowing any of his 1970s shows to be repeated on UK Gold was because he wanted higher repeater fees, so I've been led to believe. A pity, as I love Noel as a broadcaster but it would have been nice to have seen some of his editions among the repeats. As for forthcoming UK Gold repeats, where did you get this information from? This is wonderful news and do you know further details on which editions are planned to be shown? It would also be nice if UK Gold reconsidered and put on b/w editions, both those that were originally and now only exist in b/w, as it's not the viewers' fault that some editions don't exist in colour. It draws the question also, that as Gary Glitter and Jonathan King have been confirmed as paedophiles, as to whether all their existing performances will be edited out of future UK Gold repeats. I don't like what they did in their personal lives but for completeness and entertainment value, it would be good if their performances could be included, as it's not the same when performances and DJ links are taken out of the shows. I am very much in favour of UK Gold repeating Top of the Pops again. I wonder what's made them change their minds. I never got around to asking them to repeat them, as I don't know their e-mail address but this is good news all round!!!

Noel doesnt really have to give them up. after all they are his tapes.
BUT if we ALL ask him nicely, maybe he'll loan the tapes back to the beeb just so the performance value can be added to the BBC's archives : )

Anyone suffering from withdrawal symptoms of what's left of Noel Edmonds' appearances on TOTP, there was a clip of him introducing Alice Cooper on tonight's 100 Scariest Moments. (Alice Cooper being the scary one not Noel Edmonds.)
Plus lots of other stuff I've not seen on TV in years...

they must be n1500 then, we could try hypnosis? there must be an aufull lot of these tapes lying about as many of the dj and pop stars seem to have them letters, e-mails and general begging seems in order There is a chance that J King and G glitter will be on, there was a Jonathan King song on sounds of the 60s -everyones gone to the moon also the late Kenny Everett probably had a video as he was a gadget freak lots of spec letters to as many of these peoples as possible

Don't bother writing to Tony Blackburn - he hasn't got any. Unfortunately he got rid of all his tapes many years ago.
This is annoying as he had a video recorder when they were still very rare. (I think I'm right in saying he was one of the first in Britain to get one.) It's possible there could have been some TOTPs in there too. On the other hand, it may just have been loads of episodes of 'Crossroads', which he famously confessed to taping regularly!
