I'm trying to find a second performance of 'Crazy Horses' by The Osmonds from Top Of The Pops. A very short clip was used in the BBC programme "We Are Family" and is most definately from Top Of The Pops. It's different to the usual performance we've seen countless times on TOTP2 and features The Osmonds in black rhinestone suits with black chokers around their necks. Looking at the TOTP database it states two performances exist. 16 Nov 72 hosted by Jimmy Saville and 28 Dec 72 hosted by Noel Edmonds & Tony Blackburn. I presume the usual one we see is from the 28 Dec edition? Anyone have any info or more importantly anyone have the complete performance?

The 16/11/72 TOTP is b/w only. I haven't seen the Osmonds clip in question but presumably it's colour?

Yes...the clip is in colour. I haven't seen a b&w one. According to the database it lists two seperate performances, it doesn't say it's a repeat one? Is ASM around? He's seen the clip too. Wonder if he knows anything?

Hi Mike! I've been unwell lately and I'm still weak so I wont be back on MBW for a few days. I'm afraid that Osmonds clip was a total suprise to me. I hope you solve the mystery. ASM

firstly, im not an osmond addict or particular fan but i do recall very vividly their first performance on totp. I was 11 at the time and had just started a new secondry school .All the girls at school were talking about that thursday was that the osmonds were going to be on totp that night, so i decided to check 'em out. their performance was previewed a few hours earlier on john cravens newsround, and i had to say , the performance looked ,erm well, exciting. anyway, the osmonds started with alan osmond giving a brief interview with jimmy saville and then lept into crazy horses. one of the distinct things about this performance, was that the normal drummer, jay , had abandoned his drums and was singing lead behind a mic, whilst his brother merril, the bass player, was playing drums and singing the bridge of the song. I am 99% certain that they wore black elvis type gear on the show. I think every one my age remembers this performance. the next day at school all the kids where talking about it and i am now embarrassed to say i was bought the crazy horses album for xmas that year !!. i can honestly say i have never seen this performance since as all the footage of this song shown recently seems to have the osmonds in white and playing their usual instruments. but hey, someone will tell me im wrong!!!
