Thanks to Mr ASM who posts here, I now have four TOTP appearances that I'd heard existed but had never been able to track down. I'm sure a few of you would like a little more info so here's what I've seen.
1) SWEET-Teenage Rampage
This is introduced by Johnnie Walker. A little similar to the Musikladen performance with Brian Connolly in his blue 'Sweet Fanny Adams' outfit. Steve Priest is in pink and fluffs his lines big time but laughs it off. As the song finishes drummer Mick Tucker gets up and marches off the stage.
2) SWEET-Teenage Rampage #2
This is introduced by Jimmy Saville and is a far superior performance. Brian is dressed completely in silver this time and Steve P is in his yellow 'Sweet Fanny Adams' outfit. There's a few spirally video effects used. The whole audience is clapping and seem to be really enjoying themselves and as the song finishes Brian snaps his mike stand in half like in the Musikladen performance.
3) QUEEN-Seven Seas Of Rhye
I believe this is their second appearance of this song. I've always wanted to see this one! It's in b&w but a good steady picture. Freddie is in black (I presume!) with sparkly jewels around the shoulder. He also has chainmail gloves and a silver studded belt. At one point Noel Edmunds can be seen watching the performance. Anyway, it's fantastic!
4) MUD-Tiger Feet
This is far better than the one we've all seen with the boys in blue. They have matching red outfits on and are really hamming it up. DLT jumps onstage straight away and mucks around with a fiddle during the whole performance. Les, Ray & Dave all have tiger faces on the back of their jackets but Rob Davis has his on his bum...so him! The credits roll but when they finish, the song carries on for more than a minute. There are two Mud Boys on a podium behind the audience doing their Tiger Feet dance. The crowd are loving it too.
Great to see these with my very eyes and know they do exist! So a big thankyou ASM. Now, I wonder if Chicory Tip's 'Good Grief Christina' is sitting in someones home video collection? Seeing these makes you realise there is hope for these long lost gems turning up...one day!
