I seem to recall that Doomwatch was bought by and broadcast on a Canadian network. Does anyone know who? (I'm assumming it was probably the CBC.) And of what that network bought to broadcast, are there any missing episodes in that batch and have all avenues been used to see if missing Doomwatch episodes might still reside in Canada?

I'm fairly certain that a number did return about 20 years ago on NTSC tapes from Canada

I'm fairly certain that a number did return about 20 years ago on NTSC tapes from Canada I think the Canadian tapes included several episodes from series one and all of series two. I'm sure a 'Doomwatch' expert can clarify.

I'd hardly call myself an expert but, yes, the vast majority of the (then) missing season two was returned from Canada...

My listings research has Australia receiving season two (You Killed Toby Wren) on. Any Australians viewers know better?

Were black and white telerecordings ever made of "Doomwatch" like the Jon Pertwee Doctor Whos'? Given that much early colour material has survived as b+w telerecordings, I'm a bit surprised at not seeing any "Doomwatch" in such a form. I can only assume that such telerecordings were never made or what b+w material there is is of material already existing in colour.
Fainter though it gets by the year, I do still live in hope that some missing "Doomwatch" may turn up, particularly the final one of the first series and the controversial opener of the third series. The mental vision of Ridge, chunky sideburns and all holding the world to ransom is distinctly amusing and little wonder Gerry Davis and Kit Pedler were most upset.

I believe b/w trs were made of Doomwatch as I think season 2 existed in this form until the colour tapes were returned from Canada in the '80s. Someone may correct me if i'm wrong. I don't know if they were being made for season 1 though (a shame if not as it was by far the best season).

The distinct lack of series 1 and 3 episodes in black and white prompted me to ask since most BBC shows of the early colour era tend to be represented by a mix of colour VT and b+w t/r. (I'm currently watching the DVD of "All Gas and Gaiters" which feature such a mixture) It would be a real shame if that first series was not t/r'd since that would make the likelihood of any future discoveries extremely unlikely. Having seen all the surviving episodes, the difference between the first and last series is striking. I found the series 3 episodes rather bland and boring whereas the series 1 examples are some of the finest TV drama I think I've ever had the pleasure to see.

According to the website 625.org.uk, there are b/w film recordings of all the season two episodes apart from 'Public Enemy', which still exists as a 625 colour videotape. There are no film recordings of episodes from seasons one and three.

Hmmmm...I wonder if anything missing might still reside here? If this was the NTSC stuff retrieved in 1985 - 86; it included selections from series 1; which were not held by the BBC at all. These were 'TOMORROW THE RAT'; 'THE BATTERY PEOPLE' and 'TRAIN AND DE - TRAIN'. The BBC held 'PUBLIC ENEMY'; the last from series 2; good episode; on 625 line VT; and all of series 2 on B+W film. These I believe were discovered from the same source as the Pertwee 'WHO' prints. I assume Canada didn't purchase series 3 as all that still exists are 'WAITING FOR A KNIGHTHOOD'; 'HAIR TRIGGER' and the untransmitted banned episode 'SEX AND VIOLENCE'.
