As a Xmas Gift I received a 13 Disc Box set of Steptoe & son , I am puzzled as according to the rite up only 2 episodes from Series 6 broadcast between 2 Nov 70 - 20 Dec 70 exist in Colour Come Dancing & Cuckoo In The Nest , But I clearly remember my mate asking me to record The Episode Pot Black for him in Summer of 1991 when it was broadcast on BBC 2 , I only watched it once before giving him back his tape ( as at the time he was working nights & the timer of his VCR was not working),But I could have swore it was in Colour , I have spoken to him & he confirms this , but is not sure if he kept the tape ,due to various house moves etc etc, but my point is if this was available in the Summer of 91 How come that only the B&W print is available now?, I was always lead to believe that All the wiping & purging of material at the BBC took place before the Mid 70's ?

I saw that transmission of "Pot Black" in 1991 and it was most definitely in black and white. A clip from it was used a couple of years earlier in an edition of "Telly Addicts" where again, it was black and white.

I taped the whole run in 1991 & "Pot Black" was broadcast in black and white...The colour masters were wiped in the early 1970s. I remember being puzzled at the time by Harry H Corbett looking very 1970s (in his hairstyle), but at the time not realising that these were the only copies of the later series'. Cheers, Mark

Yes, the interview was on one of the 1990s releases..Shame it never made it onto the dvd's. This is a model (or something very similar) that they used to record them. www.labguysworld.com/Shibaden_SV-550.htmAccording to various wesites, the tapes were kept in either Ray or Alans celler, then rediscovered in the early 1990s. Late last year, a t/r was found that contained half of the episode of "A winters tale", although only in black & white, there was talk that maybe a colour image was/is buried in the tape. Cheers, Mark.

I can confirm that this was in black & white, too - I still have my recording of the broadcast. Chris.
