Does anyone know if the final two colour seasons will be released on DVD? I've noticed that the 1972 & 1974 series have now been deleted. Did they not sell well or is there a legal rights issue? Patricia Hayes was absolutely brilliant in it.
I have most of the episodes from the repeat season ten years ago plus an old BBC release of 3 episodes on VHS in the nineties. If I remember rightly, the BBC did not broadcast some of the more "sensitive" episodes. This includes the episode with George Best.
I know i'm asking a lot but it would be great if the remaining B&W episodes could also be released. I missed the BBC4 repeat of Peace and Goodwill AGAIN.
Another question on the same series. There is a B&W clip on You Tube with Alf being punched by a Scotsman and Ian St John standing at the bar. Anyone know which episode that's from?

Was that the episode the election night special that featured Spike Milligan made up with a darker skin colour? I did see a clip of that a few years ago at the BFI's Missing Believed Wiped event, and as funny as the clip is I doubt it would even get a release on DVD let alone another showing on TV as it would probably be considered very politically incorrect these days. Another episode I saw at the same time was a carefully reconstructed one called The Phone, I believe the person who did it painstakingly took it off an old video tape which was wearing away as he was playing it, it was very much a labour of love but his efforts were greatly appreciated as its certainly the funniest Garnett episode I've ever seen next to the Christmas one that went out on BBC4 the other week...

The Phone episode shown at Missing Believed Wiped was from 1968 and hasn't been on the BBC since then. I'd also agree that it's the best episode of the series I've seen so far. The worst was that terrible one set in a pub that BBC4 showed a few years ago - the one with Jimmy Tarbuck in it.

The Phone episode was from 1968 but I doubt it was the one shown in 1993, hence i dont think this chap would have spent months piecing it back together from an old video tape if it still existed in the Beeb's archive.
The soundtrack was very temperamental as it virtually deafened us when we watched it (and that was before Alf started shouting!). It was along the lines of the Garnett's getting a phone and everyone starts using it (including the neighbours), very funny, Alf just gets crosser and crosser throughout the whole show and the funniest bit is when the phone rings in the middle of the night and gets him out of bed ! I seem to remember it turns out to be a for a neighbour who is been called by a relative from abroad in a different time zone.
I recall seeing the blood donor episode back in 93 and think that might have been shown again since.

Patricia Hayes was absolutely brilliant in it. The two releases were from Network. As they currently have their hands full with the rights to the Granada Ventures catalogue, it's unlikely any other BBC series will be released by Network in the forseeable future. Of course, there's nothing to stop 2|entertain from doing so...
