Excellent programme. I was surprised to see so much VT footage from the Sixties - not least a pop show called Studio Downbeat from 1963!

I understood not much STV archive programming survived from the ´60s due to a serious fire where the material was being stored around the end of the decade. Glad some does though.

The material was being stored in the circle of the Theatre Royal, if memory serves. Andy Henderson's the expert on this matter.

What a tragedy if all that Andy Stewart and Moira Anderson stuff was lost eh ? ;D Long ago for me, the TV hell of the New Year's eve /day celibration , was ITV monopolised by STV in dreary B/W. Every flaming year Andy Stewart doing his "diddly dum de" songs and Moira screeching like a banshee. Then off course if you were ill you would get it on friday afternoons as well. .. .

When BBC4 broadcast an edition of 'White Heather Club' a few months ago, Victor Lewis-Smith wrote an article about Andy Stewart.
If I remember the article correctly, a drunken Stewart was caught one New Year's night telling his wife how much he was going to beat the stinky plops out of her once they got home. He didn't realise the tv camera and sound were on him.

Talking of Andy, has anyone heard from him? The Lost British Television blog has disappeared.

The material was being stored in the circle of the Theatre Royal, if memory serves. Andy Henderson's the expert on this matter. Well, I never knew for certain that was where material was truly stored, about 15 years ago I was given this item DAVID BOWIE, EDINBURGH GATEWAY THEATRE 3rd Jan 1968 SCOTTISH TV, 27MIN I was told it was taken direct from a film reel removed from a skip of other reels destined for a rubbish dump after a fire at the Theatre Royal. At that time I knew loads of serious Bowie video collectors worldwide and none had heard of it all most doubted I even had a copy, its not so rare now as I gave a few collectors copies but now I realise the tale I was told at the time is true.
