Hi all! I have a question thats been bugging me for ages and I havent managed to find a definitive resource to satisfy as yet. I was wondering if anyone has a complete list of all of the Nigel Kneale TV shows that are missing along with transmission dates if possible. I have looked around for one, couldnt see one though. Also if anyone has any information about wether any of these had 16mm prints made or were sold abroad etc that would be even more excellent. Speculations and so forth would also be interesting. Anyhow, hope someone has the info im after

This is by no means a definitive list, but it's a start:
1953 The Quatermass Experiment, episodes 3-6: live broadcasts, no recordings made. 1955 The Creature: two live broadcasts (I don't know if the second performance was telerecorded; if so it got junked). 1963 The Road: videotape, with 16mm film inserts (I think). No recording known to exist. 1970 Wine of India: videotape; erased 1971 The Chopper: videotape; erased

Interesting stuff. So there is an admittedly slim possibility of wine of India or the chopper possibly existing on home recordings I guess.
Can anyone clear up if the second performance of the creature was telerecorded? Does any documentation exist to suggest this?

Here's Kneale's screenography. Stuff in red is thought to be non-existent. If i've got anything wrong as regards archive status, let me know and i'll amend...

Thanks for the info. Interesting stuff indeed. An awful lot of gaps there as well. but of course we should be greatful that classics like Quatermass and sex olympics still exist at all.
Now of the missing stuff there, has anyone come across research that would indicate what was telerecorded and subsequently junked and what was simply shown and wiped? Lamentably I havent found much evidence so far that the road or the creature were ever telerecorded, but then nothing is impossible.
Does anyone have any further info please?

Sorry, additionally, to save repeating anyone elses footsteps, is research into possible foreign sales publicly available at all? I know this sort of info is sketchy, missing or often unreliable, but it all helps.

It's certain that both 'WEDNESDAY PLAY' and 'OU OF THE UNKNOWN' series 4 were telerecorded and sold abroad. BBC Senior Andrew Martin has posted in recent years stating that recently European sources returned prints of various entries from WEDNESDAY PLAY on T/R. Additionally; censored clips from OOTU series 4 - fragments of film copies - were returned from New Zealand or Australia in the 1990s I believe.

Ok, thats quite interesting stuff. So there is the possibility of recoveries of 3 items from the above list, either through foreign sales or the slim chance of a 16mm slipping through the junking process in the UK. Now does anyone know if there is any possibility of any of the versions of Wuthering heights, the creature or the road having been telerecorded for some purpose?

Great to hear it exists though. Maybe it will get a DVD release one day? It not impossible, having the cast and general pedigree it has.
