Out of the 20 episodes made in the 60's only 8 have been recoevered. Does anyone know the story behind their recovery, if they were sold to overseas. I've had look on the internet but can't find anythign that might answer my help.

The surviving 60s episodes are all telerecordings made for overseas sale (the copy of the last episode, "Goodbye to All That", was the one used for the 1969 'Comedy Choice' repeat and has the introduction by James Bolam on the front, but is basically a BBC Enterprises copy).

Yes, "Last of the Big Spenders" - but that was still an overseas sales copy originally.

Last of the big spenders was shown on TV quite a while ago, before it was on DVD. I watched it and a few others and really enjoyed it, which prompted me to get the DVD set to watch teh 8 remainder.

The very first Likely Lads episode 'Entente Cordiale' was a missing programme and was handed over to Steve Bryant when he was at the BBC. I believe it was shown a few years ago with other Likely Lads episodes, including 'Last of the Big Spenders'.

Another 2 episodes-"a star is born" & "faraway places"(both from the 1965 2nd series) are known to exist as well as aussie censored extracts from other episodes.Let's hope that brilliant examples from the series such as "outward bound","anchors aweigh","brief encounter","love & marriage" & "where have all the flowers gone" are recovered in the not too distant future as i have the audio's to these & they are sheer perfection where character writing & situation comedy are concerned.

That's the first I've heard about 'Faraway Places' - is this in the hands of one of the fabled private collectors? Stuart
