The BBC repeated a good chunk of these (with ATV idents) around 1999 / 2000 - I recorded a few of them at the time - theres alsoa clip of Eric and Ern performing with The Beatles on the Beatles Anthology DVD's. ITC released several compilation videos in the 1990s but these were sketches hacked to bits pretty much like every other Morecambe and Wise video at the time.

I did record some of these shows, but, unfortunately I hacked them to bits to make a compilation of my favourite sketches. Fine for me, but not for afficionados.

Don't recall the Tom Jones one, though I know he did one with them much later, I need to check which ones I have, I'm currently transferring a load onto DVD, (junking my old tapes).
I've already transferred several Morecambe and Wise to DVD (and then like The Two Ronnies the BBC have started releasing official versions - sigh) but I've found how interesting it is seeing how various versions of certain shows have been re-edited over the years.
Its all good stuff though and they never fail to make me laugh no matter how many times I've seen them.

Not sure Stephen, but think thats from the later BBC series, is that the one with Eric and Ern doing the female vocal bits (Yeh Yeh Yeh). I believe Eric wrote that one on a family holiday much to his families embarrassment as he tested the idea out on a waiter in a restaurant they were having lunch in.
I think I have the sketch on a BBC compilation as I seem to remember watching it recently (thats if I remember the correct sketch).
I think there was an earlier series of Morecambe and Wise that no longer exists, there was an interview with a chap on the Dad's Army Missing Believed Wiped documentary who said he'd bought a film can from a dealer and it turned out to be an early Morecambe and Wise show - unfortunately they didn't show a clip of it - so I have no idea what it is.
Incidentally; there's a great new book on Eric and Ern by William Cook with interviews of people who worked with and knew them, including their wives Joan and Doreen, packed with lots of pics and information, an ideal companion to his earlier Eric Morecambe Unseen.
Yes, I'm quite a bit of a fan! ;D

The film can (in the missing presumed wiped doc) was of a 1968 BBC Series 1 show. This has now been issued on DVD.
Nothing else of this series is known to exist. One other full series that does not exist is "Running wild" from 1953, this however was probably not even recorded.
One show that does confuse me though is a show recorded in I think March 1968 which doesn't appear to have been broadcast. I have been doing some work for the estate of Matt Monro and have a contract for a week of rehearsals and a recording for an ATV M&W that does not fit with any known broadcast show. We are absolutely certain it took place (this was between last ATV series and first BBC) as any contracts that did not happen were marked as such - especially for a week long commitment. Graham McCann, and the Morecambe family can't tell us anything so if anybody does know anything about this do let me know!

RM I was quite shocked that the first BBC series had been wiped considering it was supposed to be such a big success, I guess all the oversea avenues have been checked out, because wasnt Ernie instrumental in getting the series shown abroad and wasnt the series filmed in colour so that it would have overseas appeal? The Matt Monro documentation sounds interesting, is it possible rehearsals could have occured then the show could have been cancelled due to industrial action or something - though I hope not - wouldnt it be marvellous if there was an unbroadcast show out there sitting waiting to be discovered?

It would be good - however Granada International (who own the ATV catalogue) aren't all that helpfull (unless you want licence something!)

Richard It amazes me that Eric and Ernie were National Treasures so to speak yet the powers that be don't seem to treat their material with the regard or acclaim they deserve - I think its a miracle the BBC are finally releasing the complete shows - but all theie other material seems to always go largely ignored - Two Of A Kind, of course getting a BBC2 rerun around 1999/2000 and still no sign of anything on DVD. Just out of interest, I seem to remember some Black and White shows been shown on the BBC in the mid 80s (possibly after Eric's Death) with intro's by Ernie, I'm now sure these were later compilations of ATV shows as one of them featured a very funny James Bond parody, anyone else remember these?
