Can someone tell me if anything exists from the BBC 2 series "Late Night Horror" (April/May 1968), please?

Nothing officially (apart from a trailer), although at least one episode is known to exist as a b/w print out there.

Nothing officially (apart from a trailer), although at least one episode is known to exist as a b/w print out there. Also the title sequence! That is on colour film, the trailer (with no footage from the series, but presented by Valentine Dyall as the Man in Black) is a b/w telerecording.

Intrigued to hear of the Valentine Dyall trailer - does anyone have any specific details of what this comprised? When I was pulling together details for the last two PDF guides for the Mausoleum Club series ( regarding the adaptation of Roald Dahl's 'William and Mary' and the background of the origins of the series' production in 1967 ), I attempted to collate what was known to still exist (this didn't take long - as there was seemingly very little!) 1. A tape of sound effects used for 'The Bells of Hell' production 2. The series’ Title Sequence - 20 secs approx (held on a reel of 16mm colour film) 3. A ‘Demo’ version of the Title Music. 4. Tristam Cary’s original incidental music for 'William and Mary' - which still exists as part of his own Recordings Archive. 5. Complete camera scripts for all six broadcast plays at the BBC Written Archives Centre in Caversham, Reading. The unit also contains three production files for the series: a general file ( mostly containing various documents relating to the initial production development of the series ) and one each for 'The Bells of Hell' and 'The Kiss of Blood'. For the sake of anal 'completist' detail, any info on the trailer gratefully received! Thank you Regards Colin

There are not a lot more details to give - it's just Dyall doing a piece to camera in a 'Man in Black' costume (i.e. he's dressed in black!) talking about the series, at the end of it he turns into a skeleton... It was shot on VT in a studio, and as I said, there are no clips from the series.

Once again, many thanks Andrew for your prompt reply ; the production files made no mention of a specially shot trailer, so although the footage is slight it's still certainly of some interest ( and I'm presuming Dyall is reprising his 'Man in Black' role from his earlier 'Appointment With Fear'' (?) series for the Beeb).

Not a lot of hard facts here I’m afraid
*Rumours* of a monochrome 16mm print have been in circulation since the early 1990s, when a print bearing the title of this play was offered for private sale through a film collectors catalogue (a firm based in Southampton I believe). I gather that the Kaleidoscope Drama Guide has since listed the play as existing on the evidence of this sale.
Further rumours also surfaced regarding the possible screening of a LNH print at one the Wider TV Access (WTA) screenings in London in the late-eighties. No positive identification of the print in anyone’s memories sadly.

I think it was the late Richard Down (of Kal) that spotted the b/w t/r on sale somewhere a few years back. When he went back to it, the print had been sold. That´s how we know what episode it was and that it is definitely out there. I think there´s something about it on Mausoleum Club in the feature on the series. If Chris Perry is reading this, he may be able to add to / amend my partial memory of what happened!
