From main site episode Guide
Menace was a series of twenty-three plays running to seventy-five-minutes which found their basis in the aspects, perceptions and representations of menace in various settings in and around the villages, townships and cities of the United Kingdom ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Out of the original twenty-three plays sadly only two survive in the BBC film & video tape library. They are ‘Man with a Mission’ (TX: 03/11/1970) and ‘Killing Time’ (TX: 10/11/1970) both from 1970.
Was this series ever sold on 16mm Black & White film by BBC Enterprises or on colour 2" tape in 525 NTSC colour to the North American broadcasters?

Many are aware now that 'Out of the Unknown' series 3 and 4 from a similar period were definitely sold abroad; like 'DDOMWATCH' in B+W film print form. The story Steve mentions was repeated as a one off play; devoid of its original 'MENACE' prefix; in April 1974. This later seemed to give the NFA sufficient reason to suppose the later holding of this particular master to put it in an appeal for 'missing' T.V. programmes. My suspicion is that the decision to retain the surviving entries was taken at the time the tapes were duw to be wiped following rpeats in 1972. The tapes maybe then were used for the second series; albeit that was two entries shorter. Though tapes were normally held for two years for the repeat option; the tapes may have been wiped almost immediately id it was quickly decided they were only going to re use 'BOYS AND GIRLS'.

I was 12 when it was repeated and found it terrifying. Top of my wish list for missing eps.

I found it interesting how the writer; James McTaggart; had a preoccupation with the figure of Alice in Wonderland.
McTaggart did the Wednesday play 'Alice'; followed by the adaption of 'Through the Looking glass' for the BBC in 1973.
The character Belinda in BOYS AND GIRLS COME OUT TO PLAY was clearly in the Alice mould. A 12 year old girl played by Dr Whos Sarah Sutton who resembled the archetypical Victorian Alice figure. The 'Alice's wonderland was a nightmare world inspired by taking hallucogenic drugs. But then the original story also seems to draw upon that world too.
I recall the plays ending from original transmission and the trailer for the one off play repeat in 1974.

Everyone who watched Menace remembers this one, including me of course. Genius TV, I'd give my eye teeth to see it again. Belinda was so wonderfully evil. Didn't get the hallucegenic drugs thing at the time (I was only 12) I just thought she was inherently bad. As a cat lover, I hated the bit when she killed the old lady's cat though.
