Julie Stevens is probably one of the best-represented presenters in terms of the Play School archive - there are dozens of her shows remaining, from the 60s through to the 80s. Among other things, she's the presenter of the 1000th edition of Play School (TX 19th Feb 1968), which is co-presented by Colin Jeavons and exists on its original monochrome VT.

Kal seems to indicate the vast majority; or at least tons; of both PLAY SCHOOL and VISION ON exist. Probably some kind of educational perception of them.

Has there been any confirmation on the existance or otherwise of the edition where Humpty is planning a trip to the moon? It's a Julie Stevens one on colour VT from around 1969 (I think), and a clip was on the Play School Replay tape, but I recall speculation a while back that it had met its doom in the 1990s purge of children's programmes.

I was speculating about that, back whenever, on a thread over at the Mausoleum Club, thanks to a clip being used in the "Swiped or Wiped" feature at a Kaleidoscope do a while ago (which somehow ended up on the wikipedia Play School entry as having been shown as part of "Swiped or Wiped" at the NFT, and definitely gone) . At the time the best anyone could say was "it's quite possible that it has been wiped but we don't know", but since then a clip from the show (a clip that wasn't on the Play School Replay VHS) has been shown on BBC4, in "The Kids' Verdict" part of their Children's TV on Trial season. From what I recall of the BBC4 programme I think the children giving their opinions got to see the full show, so it looks like the "trip to the moon" edition is still in the archive. Some Play School shows were definitely wiped in '93 of course, but not that one it seems.

Oh well, nice to hear it's probably still about then! What was 'Swiped or Wiped' all about, then?

From Kal's write-up of their 2nd Sept 2006 event: "The day also featured a special presentation titled Swiped or Wiped?, to introduce a new initiative to recover lost television material, which Kaleidoscope are supporting. This plethora of extracts from programmes all of which only partially exist included ABC's Hancock, The Liver Birds, Mystery and Imagination, The Hidden Truth, material from Mike and Bernie Winters, The Multi-Coloured Swap Shop and much more. A member of the ITV production team working on the project also joined us for a question and answer session." Maybe they just had an interesting off-air tape of the show to show a clip of, to demonstrate the kind of thing that might be out there.
Are you sure it's a Julie Stevens one though? My memory is that it's Carole Ward in that show. Guess I'll have to go and check the tape!
