Does anybody know if the 'Look at Life' series will continue to be released on DVD ? We have the Swinging London episodes and a couple of others but I'm really hoping to get the holiday camps episode. Any help would be appreciated. Parkes

Have you tried contacting DD Video, the company that's been putting the discs out? If anyone knows, it's them.

The parent company who owns DDHE has applied to go into administration. We await how much (or little) this will affect DDHE...

Thanks Ian and Mark. It looks like bad news , Mark. Unless , of course, whoever buys the company has the enthusiasm to put out the remaining episodes. As you say , we wait in hope ! Thanks again, Parkes

A friend recorded off air a series shown exclusively to the MERIDIAN local area about 2 or 3 years back. Basically it was on old seaside holidays (60s; 70s etc). Between the amateur super 8mms (bit like 'the way we were' series); was professional footage of Butlins; Bognor caravan sites etc. Don't know the source but maybe this was LOOK AT LIFE ?

Parkes I did save the details for the following which apparently was released. The release date was 9.5.05. Title 'SEASIDE MEMORIES'. This was a DD release DVD. It may still be available in some shops - most likely the branches outside London! Or second hand. Theres another link here I used some time ago: www.joylandbooks.com/video_new/kursaaldvd.htmOr you could search on 'Joyland books'. This was a DVD entitled '1993 - South Coast tour'. It basically trailed funfairs round the South coast including Margate. Though its not 60s or 70s; I went to Brighton c. 90 and noted some of the old stuff was still at that time about in its original context; apparently Hayling Island also was still pretty intact at that stage. So there may be some evocative stuff on that.

Just to add I have purchased this now as its still available (Seaside memories). It's a bargain from some net sellers like 'caiman' - around a fiver!
It contains bonus footage - some looks like Bognor. The general picture quality is beautiful. Though it doesn't contain Hayling or Southsea our regular 60s haunts; Butlins bought many of the seaside funfairs in that period. As a result many of the rides seen at other resorts on the period are common to others.
For anyone who grew up holidaying in the 1959 to 71 period its a real must; some incredible footage.
The amusements arcades along Blackpools seafront in that period remind me of Bognors in 1966.

Not sure - I've lent my copy out at mo.
However - Eastbourne 1963; Blackpool 1965; Bournemouth 1966; Skegness Butlins 1964 and Weymouth all feature.

Thanks for all your effort John. Unfortunately this dvd doesn't cover the areas that I am interested in. The Look at Life stuff was , I believe, exclusively about holiday camps. Thanks again Parkes

Mind you it doesn't cover my visited areas in the 60s (Southsea and Hayling mainly).
But as mentioned before; many of the fair rides; the street scenes and period are evocative of the type of thing I experienced on holiday.
P.S. - was 'Look at life' a series of cinema shorts or just general documentaries; or was it T.V. ?

Thanks Mark - just queried this as the item wasn't listed as 'off topic'.
