Two episodes have been doing the rounds for ages. I think that's all that is known to survive although I imagine more may be out there in private collections.

Apparently all those old A.R shows (The Informer, Blackmail etc) were actually far more popular at the time than the remembered Avengers and Saint type programmes.

They're nothing very special although I watched the series at the time and have some affection for it. Watching them now though, they are really just episodes from a dull potboiler of a series. Of the Rediffusion shows of that time, i'd much prefer episodes of The Ratcatchers, The Informer etc. to turn up (although Riviera Police was an independently produced thing, on behalf of Rediffusion, and not actually made by them).

Legend has it , that the commissioning process was one of those sixties style situations. IE. somebody said to a programme commissioner who had just got back from the pub "lets make a cop show in the sun with some pretty girls" . It was meant to be a jokey flippant remark from a bout of wishful thinking, but the commissioner said "wow good idea, lets do it" --

We'll have to agree to differ on that one then. The point being though that Ghost Squad exists in the archives (and now out on DVD) whereas The Rat Catchers is largely missing and is a well remembered Rediffusion show, (unlike Riviera Police, which is remembered for all the wrong reasons!)

Sorry Laurence perhaps i was too young for it back in 1966 it seemed a bit deep chatty and complex Ghost Squad was repeated sunday afternoons seemed more action in it.
