This post is regarding an interview with the painter L.S. Lowery. It is on 16mm film, and isn't technically my property, it belongs to a school, but I'm one of two people who knows it exists and they certainly don't value it. I would normally dismiss this, but it has yorkshire TV in the titles. just curious, could this be missing? I don't know what its called, but as I recall its about 15 minutes, its only a small reel. My suspician is that this was printed for educational use, but is obviously something to do with the TV station. The situations sticky, I'd really like to get my hands on it, but I don't have acess to it, so I can only answer questions from memory. This could be the only interview ever shot with the bloke, so if it ended up in a bin it would be a frightful shame. I'm told the title is 'L.S. Lowrey' although that could just be wahts written on the can.

Its a 1971 one-off documentary by Yorkshire TV. I've never checked if it exists or not.

I Googled "Lowry Yorkshire tv" which came up with the BFI site and I searched that for "Lowry" and came up with (among others) ftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/title/284778 . That was made by Tyne-Tees TV.

That sounds like the one. Well, as long as there's a copy of it. Hopefully I'll get to run it once more before my contact with the school in question is severed, but from memory, that sounds like the subject matter.
many thanks

Sorry, but I'm a bit confused - if its on the BFI site, is that a record of their archive, or a record of what programs have known to have been made? There are several films about Lowry on there, and some of them have 'not available' next to their details. Does this mean that maybe there isn't a copy of it to take reference from?

A quick archive check with ITV seems to indicate they dont have it anymore. May be at the BFi, lots of old stuff was given to them in the 1970s. Will enquire more... suggest you may want to talk to your schools contact about getting a transfer made...?

Granada did a compilation documentary around 1976, so it might/ might not be included on this? just a thought

As of contacting the school, thats all down to my dad. He teaches art there, and the films were given to the dept by the county council on the pretext that 'nobody else wants it anymore'. The school no longer run them, but its down to my dad to convince them to give them up. And I have to convince my dad. If the program is missing and unique, I have quite a good arguement for him trying to get hold of them. Neverthless, he retires in the summer, so he's really got to do it soon. I'll have a word with him, tell him that its rare missing footage and that it needs to be preserved, and see if he delivers the goods. If I could just get hold of the films I could find out whats actually there. There's more stuff aside from the Lowry, including a rather interesting documentary on windmills, although The Lowry one I distinctly remember having the yorkshire TV logo on it. Whatevers there, its bound to be pretty rare, a lot of its black and white, but I don't think any of it's TV apart from the Lowry. anyway, will post again when news comes.

Hey everyone, good news. I have the print right in front of me, and it is definately the 1957 BBC film L.S.Lowrey. Dunno why I remembered it as Yorkshire TV, maybe that ones yet to come. Anyways, I've just viewed it and copied it via an ancient VHS camera (DV cams can't seem to cope with the flicker) and it looks great, there is the odd splice, one that interrupts the narration, but it runs OK, and seems to be complete. So, is it missing? I shot this video with my webcam from the VHS copy, just to show that it is definately the right one. rapidshare.com/files/39039832/Lowry.wmv.htmlSam
