Just wondering if anyone knows who made the U.S. / Australian - ? - 1960s series 'DAKTARI'.
It ran on BBC1 c. 1967 and 'Crackerjack' did a spoof sketch of it.
The only time I've seen anything since was a clip on TELLY ADDICTS c. 1989.
Is it out on video does anyone know?

Not sure if its ever had a dvd/video relaese sadly it is shown tv occasionally.Daktari was made by ivan tors films a us production company it first aired on cbs in the us in 1966 they made lots of wildlife type films(flipper ect) Daktari (the Swahili word for 'doctor') featured an American animal doctor and his daughter living on an African game reserve called Wameru (although the series was filmed in a Los Angeles safari park).
Dr. Marsh Tracy was the vet who ran an animal study centre with his daughter Paula, an American named Dane and an African native named Mike. The other regular character was Hedley, British District Officer and Game Warden, who called on Marsh for help in dealing with animals and poachers.
The Tracy's had two pets. A cross-eyed lion named Clarence (who had previously starred in a movie called, aptly enough, Clarence the Cross-eyed Lion) and a chimpanzee named Judy.
New regular additions to the cast came in 1968. Bart Jason was a former ranger and hunter who had become a guide for picture-taking safaris, and Jenny Jones, a 7-year-old orphan who became part of the Tracy family (played by Erin Moran - Joanie of Happy Days).also the chimp was simultaneously starring on Lost in Space as Debbie. Allegedly, the studio had the chimp's teeth removed after she attacked the cast once too often.
89 x 50min episodes
hope this helps

"Daktari" - god, that takes me back... Was it really so long ago? I used to love watching this... I remember Judy the chimp really well - never knew she had had her teeth removed - just imagine the fuss if a production company tried something like that nowadays...
