HOLE IN THE ROAD; RIGHT SAID FRED QUERY
Picture: 1962 -63; an average British living room. 'Pixie and Dixie' are in full swing on BBC1 and 'Woody woodpecker show' and 'Tweety pie' are popular. little do we know the popularity of a new import run as 'The Boss cat' on BBC1 will eclipse 'Pixie and Dixie' who will then disappear from our screens for many years. On one of the TV channels; a very young boy observes a promotion for a latest Pop record; which catches his eye as it's set to a puppet animation. The animation features a sort of Mr potato head character dressed in a flat cap; smoking a cigarette. This is set to a new record by Actor Bernard Cribbins 'Hole in the road'. Not long after another in similar mode, on film stock appears to a follow up 'Right said Fred'. There's also another featuring a bendy doll of a Rabbit placed in a white set to look sunny; with a toy Spanish guitar and a Sombrero hat. This is a promotional film for 'Speedy Gonzales' and features on both channels.
Does this scenario sound familiar to any correspondents? I'm curious as to the source of who made these items; which I've seen over the years so presumably they still exist; but also what TV shows at the time may have used them and if anyone knows if any survive with the films in their transmitted context?
