Can anybody help?
We all know that the first edition of A Question Of Sport is missing, however how much exists of the show (pre 1974).
A few years ago, BBC compliation video was released and the earliest shows on the video was taken from 1974.
Many thanks

I seem to recall reading many years ago in the Radio Times that the earliest surviving complete edition was from 1974. I have certainly seen nothing from before then, so not only is the first edition missing, but so are the first few series. I hope somebody here can confirm this or correct me!

Infax lists entries for five editions pre-1974, but of those only two have any actual material logged against them, and those are 2" spool which don't give details of whether they were complete programmes or inserts. However, all 2" spools have now been transferred or junked, so these spools have probably been lost long ago.
There are also records of various spools logged on programme numbers without transmission dates, these are all insert spools, and some have been transferred so do exist - one was recorded in August 1970 so is the earliest material existing for the series, two others are from November and December 1973 (but are therefore probably for the 1974 series).
The earliest existing programme is 15/1/74.
