I have recently dug out a couple of old VHS videotapes I made of Sky One's transmissions of E Street (the Aussie serial) in 1993. This is the first time I have actually gotten around to watching them!
The reason for this post is that the shows were generally taped on timer which means there are ads, promos and parts of other shows on the tapes too that I thought some people here might be interested in.
For example the last few minutes of Gamesworld (the Sky One made show for computer game fans of the day) are present before each episode of E Street and I thought someone might want them rather than me throw them out! I'm not even sure if a show like Gamesworld would have been preserved as I think it was transmitted live and, by its very nature, isn't suitable for repeat. Anyone know its status?
I don't want anything for them, if someone is prepared to cover post and packing I'm happy to send them to you. (I'm based in Northern Ireland so its standard postage if you're in UK). And if you're an E Street fan I guess the episodes are a real bonus!
I also have some other old VHS tapes from RTE transmissions of around the same time period that I'll be getting rid of at some point (after I record some of the shows I taped to DVD) so anyone interested in station logos, continuity announcements, ads and promos now is the time to state your interest!
If anyone is interested let me know at martin@tvfavourites.com

I also have some other old VHS tapes from RTE transmissions of around the same time period that I'll be getting rid of at some point (after I record some of the shows I taped to DVD) Considering the questionable archive stability of DVD-Rs, anyone who copies their VHS footage and chucks out the tapes is a fool. If the discs die on you, which is quite likely, then you've lost it. If you a least cling on to the original tapes, you still have it- probably in better quality than DVD considering I can never get totally decent quality transfer from VHS footage, even at 9mbps- there's still some blockiness and artifacts (and this is using Adobe Ppremiere- real time encoders in DVD recorders are usually not as good). My personal suggestion is get some hard drives, get a DV camcorder and transfer your footage and store it on a hard drive (you don't need to record on DV tapes- get a camcorder with analogue input & DV output and you can transfer it straight to computer, which is what I do), then get some software like Ulead DVD movie factory and use that to convert the DV files to DVD. DV is better quality than DVD, you can store loads of footage on a hard drive (200GB would store around 13 hours), and it takes up much less space than VHS tapes, and you can be safe in the knowledge that the hard drives are unlikely to suddely die on you (if the DVDs die, you can just burn another copy), especially if you duplicate the contents to a second HD.
