Does anyone recall the visits they used to regularly show every Xmas morning on the BBC c.1965 - 70. I recall Rolf Harris and Leslie Crowther amongst others?
I wondered if these were live or were any known to have been recorded and exist? They were very moving shows, O/B electronic cameras as I recall.

The shows were titled 'Meet The Kids' if I remember correctly, and they go back to the late 1950s. Max Bygraves was the show's first presenter. I believe a telerecording from this period does exist, and some more from later years.

A staple part of BBC Xmas programming. Anyone know how many '60s editions survive?

Thanks very much to Andy Henderson for the info re; surviving edition. I seem to think they used a clip of this on something in the early 1990s.
I didn't know they ran clips; did recall complete shows between the links about 1967. I think it started at 9.30 and would run through to 10.30 when a film or compilation of silent movies would be shown.
Like Laurence I'd also be interested if there are any more recordings from the 1960s period?

I don't like kids, but I always felt sorry for the poor little sods; bad enough being in hospital at Christmas, then the doors open and Max Bygraves walks in. How cruel.

I never watched the shows but my dad used to rush in the bedroom and watch it on the b/w portable TV circa 1968/69. I don't like kids, but I always felt sorry for the poor little sods; bad enough being in hospital at Christmas, then the doors open and Max Bygraves walks in. How cruel.

A staple part of BBC Xmas programming. Anyone know how many '60s editions survive? Looks like just the one edition from 1961 according to the search I did. I always assumed these were live and assume there must have been a brief for recording that particular one. Doesn't necessarily mean excerpts - might - occur on the end of another transmitted programme behind or ahead of editions slated for off air telerecording.
