Looks promising. Series 2 is coming out a month later as well...

We'll just have to wait and see if it was treated properly (missing bits etc. as frequently discussed here).

Looks like we've got a complete boxset coming out in Australia (R4). 7 discs so they'll have to be double sided. It's on Sony/Comubia Tristar so I'm guessing it's going to use the same masters are the R2 sets.
It comes out March 28th so I guess we'll know then. If these episodes are still cut I will be very pissed.

Hm, 7 discs, that's odd. I thought they would need at least 9.

Hm, 7 discs, that's odd. I thought they would need at least 9. The current A&E set is 14 discs, and I assume the new set will be double sided discs, like the R4 "Personal Best" set (which had 3 double sided discs with one Python "Personal Best" per side). If this happens there will only be a maximum of 4 episodes per disc side, so the quality won't suffer too much from compression. If they are only single sided discs, there will be 6-7 episodes per disc, which is pretty standard with most BBC DVDs out there anyway. All of the info I've read on online stores say that these discs will be 'newly remastered' so lets hope they got them right!

I know it had 14 discs, but that did not make much sense, as some were single layer and some double layer. Rather cumbersome if you ask me.
I think you mean double layer when you say double sided? There are also double sided double layer discs, which would mean 6 hours on one disc.

OK, in that case, 4 discs would probably suffice.

Did the people who have the b&w "Satan" sketch and the "PBS Pledge" Choreographed Political bit contact the DV manufacturers? Also what will happen with the "Watching the road" and "programme planning" bits from episode 4? Wouldn't it be rather annoying if these recovered segments are absent?!

I just got the R4 complete series set!
Here's a rundown:
- 7 single-sided, dual layer discs in regular DVD cases, housed in a nice cardboard case.
- The transfers are excellent, just as good as most BBC DVDs. The shows look FAR better than the NTSC A&E discs.
- The "I'm not a Spanish person!" line is back in the Biggles Dictates a Letter sketch!
- In the Penguin On The TV sketch, the Pepperpots mumble 'The Girl From Ipanema' while walking to the television! (The A&E discs used a version with 'Genie With The Light Brown Hair' because of rights issues)
- Dad's Pooves is back!
And last but not least....
- The All-England Summarise Proust Competition is completely uncensored!
And now the bad news:
- Choreographed Party Political Broadcast is still missing, but this sketch only exists on an NTSC off-air recording and a B&W kinescope, so its ommision is reasonably valid. The Satan Animation isn't included either, for the same reason. Hopefully both of these will be on the "Extra-packed" edition of the series, supposedly coming out next year.
- The Bus Conductor sketch is still missing the "Tonight, tonight! I'm getting pissed tonight!" line.
Oh well, one cut line isn't all that bad...

Series 1 and 2 are both out now, with no extras, nothing of note. So I wouldn't expect much from the R2 versions of Series 3 and 4.
Anyone got any comments on the quality of the transfers from what they've seen from the first two sets of DVDs?

The R4 DVDs are exactly the same as the R2 DVDs, so everything in my review 2 posts up goes for the UK discs too.
The picture quality is excellent, apart from an occasional bit of digital grainyness on the animations.
